After having had your WLS, do you ever wish you'd had a different type of surgery and why?

I started this journey convinced that I would have the Lap-Band. Somewhere along the way, I changed my mind to RNY, and I have never looked back. I have no regrets at all.

Honestly, YES! I really wanted to have the DS if I am truly honest about this. Unfortunately, in my State - CT there are very few surgeons who offer that surgery currently. I had a wonderful surgeon - I trusted him and felt safe in his hands...but if he offered the DS I would have done that for sure! Now, don't get me wrong - I am very grateful for the RNY surgery I have had..but I have seen a lot of folks who have not maintained their weight loss long term...that, coupled with my 4-previous successful 100+pound weight loss attempts where I lost my weight only to gain it back, terrifies me...that is why it is my support groups of which this is included, is so necessary to my staying on track for the long haul!

No I don't wish I had any other type of surgery. This was the only type my insurance would help pay for. So I am thankful that they even helped pay for that because there is no way I would ever of been able to even afford to go to Mexico where it is cheaper to get it done.

I haven't really checked into other types of surgery. I went with what the surgeon suggested thinking he was the professional and wouldn't steer me wrong. I'm happy with the type of surgery I chose.

I did nt know about the DS till this site but my options were lap band and rny. The lap band freaks me out for some reason...i know weird. But after research I knew the rny was for me and I have had no regrets....but maybe i wasted my 20's being fat...

In my area, the choices were pretty much Lap Band or RNY. My surgeon does a few VSGs, but feels that the DS folks will end up in nutritional trouble down the road, so he won't do that surgery. He is, however, VERY good at what he does and I felt the RNY was best for me anyway. I have no doubts or regrets about choosing RNY! Lea

I've been very satisfied with my RNY. I will try my hardest to continue being successful with my weight loss.

I wanted the lap band, but my pcp and the surgeon convinced me to get the RNY due to my comorbidities. I am so happy I listened!

I was only eligible for RNY thru my insurance, but I am very happy with my surgery and would change nothing. Vivienne
