I originally wanted the band because of the risks factor. However, when my surgeon found out that I'd had failed stomach stapling 24 years ago and hernia repairs in 1990 and 1995, he said that the band was not an option because of scarring. This is the same reason he did it open too, instead of lap.
So I had the RNY and I'm glad I did. I also find I need the forced restrictions that come along with it. If my system would allow me to eat bread, I would. And bread is, and always has been, my downfall.
I had RNY - I didn't know about DS until after I had my surgery, so that wasn't an option for me. I gather it's the newest of the procedures.
I initially thought I was going to choose Lapband. Then, doing the research, I came to understand that Lapband wasn't going to work for me. I was a sweet eater, and a past master of playing mindgames with myself. These two things told me that RNY would be the better choice. I also didn't feel entirely comfortable with having a foreign appliance in my body forever, and also running the risk of having something happen (like erosion or band slippage) and losing my tool. RNY is more drastic in many ways, but it IS a final solution, and that's what I wanted the most. Nobody can take this away from me. My stomach will always be cut in half and my digestive process re-routed. Believe it or not, I find this comforting. It can't stop working unless I STOP WORKING IT.
I had RNY. I never really looked into any other type of surgery.I knew several people who had it and they were very happy about their decision. Also the surgeon I went to only does the RNY he says it's the one with the best results for most poeple. I live in a small town and their aren't alot of choices when it comes to this surgery unless you want to travel several hours away.I wanted to stay as close to home as possible.I'm very happy with my decision and would not change it.

I had the VSG. I have no insurance and I wanted restriction only no re routing. This way I don't have any WLS specific follow up care and very little need for supliments( just multi). I could never have afforded the others with those things. I do absolutley love my VSG, it was the right choice for me.

I had Lap Band Surgery. When I was first trying to get approved through my insurance for this procedure I was looking at RNY. After my insurance denied and I decided I needed this done regardless and would have to self pay, I then started looking at all the options and weighing which would be the best for me. After studying all aspects of all the different types of weight loss surgery available, I decided that I was motivated enough to try the Lap Band first. I also felt this was the one surgery that in the end I could afford. I think this is totally a personal choice and that each surgery has its good and bad points; it's all a personal choice. This in the end worked the best for me and to date I have lost 151 lbs and I would do it all over again if I had to.
