Daily Post--2/27/08

Today's topic is a little different... Do you follow up with your surgeon and nut? Are you on a regular program? My surgeon does every 3 mos followup till one year out, then goes to 6 mos. At some point, it goes to once a year. I have my 18 mos workshop on 3/3. Lea

So far I have seen my surgeon's Physician Assistant at One week out, One month out, 3 months out, and 6 months out. Next time I will see him is at 1 year out!!! Krissy

My surgeon also has it set up to where I have to see her every 3 months during the 1st year and then after that I believe it goes to once a year unless I have any problems or they find any irregularities in my bloodwork. As for my nut, they gave me a phone number and told me I could call anytime and they can help me either over the phone or via appointment but I don't have a regular appointment schedule with the nut.

My surgeon has cancelled on my twice, so I have not seen her once since the day after my surgery last September. I did see the PA at one month out for about a 2 minute appointment (- really!), but that's it for the surgeon. On the other hand, I've seen the nutritionist 3 times since the surgery. She is very helpful, and I think I get a lot more out of the appointments with her than I would with the surgeon anyway. I will supposedly have my "three-month follow-up" with the surgeon at the end of March (which is actually 6 months out) . I also attend a small support group for post-ops once each month. I had to commit to attending those for at least 12 months, and I've noticed that there are several people who are a few years out from their surgery who still attend. I get a lot out of those groups also.

I have so far. I actually will be seeing my nut and an exercise guy next Monday. My surgeon did 2 weeks 1 month and the next is 6 months. Vivienne

I'm one yr out and my surgeon still has me go in every month.Not sure how long he does this,but my friend is 18 months out and she goes every month when I do.I beginning to think it's more for the money then anything at this point.All we do is go in get weighed and the the Dr. looks at your chart and sends you on your way. Yes, I follow-up... glad to say I'm ahead of the curve. My 18 month follow-up is in June. If I have questions, I call and talk to my nut. Wittgrove Bariatric in La Jolla is an excellent team.

Actually, I don't have a nut..I had to have one visit with one to pre-qualify for the surgery but that is it...As far as the surgeon..yes, he is very vigilent on making sure we go very frequently in the first year and then it reduces to semi-annual visits thereafter.

I saw my surgeon's NP at 1 week out, then 1 month out, then 2 months. The next one is in 3 months. Then I think it's a year after that.
