Day two of my primary system being down... SO stressful! But, we plug along, right?? Today's question: What was your ABSOLUTE FAVORITE FOOD as a PREop? What about now as a postop? And, if it has changed, why do you think that is?? Be honest!! Lea

Oh my gosh, there are too many fave foods to name, but if I had to pick ONE favorite it would be pizza. Eventhough I have tried to make it healthy and without so many carbs, etc. I still don't have the same satisfaction as I did when I ate a piece of REAL pizza. I miss it, but it's not worth everything I have worked for over the last 6 months. Once in a while when I am around people who have pizza I will take a teeny, tiny bite...chew it and spit it out. Please don't flame me, I know this is bad practice, but I am just being honest. Post op my favorite food is probably vitalicious brownies. They are an absolute once in a while treat...but oh so good! As far as meals go, my favorite is my version of a taco salad!

I wouldn't flame you on that!!! I will take a bit of food and chew it and spit it out too I dunno why anyone would flame you for it but I'm sure there is a reason. The way I look at it is if it's in my head then if I satisfy the need by chewing the flavor out then there is no point in swallowing when I can save myself something I don't need by spitting it out. Just my thoughts! Kellie

Thanks for understanding! I think more people do it than admit to it. My surgeon and nut gave us a lecture on it pre-op stating it is an eating disorder on the rise in women. I don't do it everyday, not even every week.

It's a form or Anorexia... I've done it too. Thankfully it's not a habit.

with the lap band I have chewed up something I really wanted and spit it out too! I do this because it gets stuck and the pain if so bad. So it makes me feel like I ate since I get the flavor and I have no pain!

OMG this is a tough one!!! My all time favorite food is Mexican... I have been to Tumbleweed once post op and at like 2 chips with salsa on it but I was afraid to do anymore. My all time favorite meat was chicken...loved chicken fajitas but now I can't do chicken at all yet because my pouch doesn't like it. I also loved TJI'Friday's Jack Daniel's Steak but I haven't tried this post op. My favorite dessert was Chess Pie and of course it would just kill me now cuz it is so, so sweet but I am going to try to make one with splenda or something one of these days and see if it can be adapted. I use to love to eat out but now I hate it because generally there is nothing that I can eat. It kills me to go someplace that serves bread or chips as an appetizer because I use to love these things before but can't eat them now. It has been a huge adjustment for my family and me because that was our favorite thing to do is eat out, we really enjoyed food together I guess but now I don't enjoy it that much only because either I will eat something that makes me sick or it's torture to see the food that they can eat but I cannot and they don't want to eat the food in front of me because they feel bad. My husband starts his diet tomorrow though he has already began cutting back but this weekend so maybe working out will become our new thing we enjoy doing together....I hope!! Have a great day! I know what you mean, because I can't do pork, or chicken, or beef yet. But that doesn't mean there's nothing for us to eat when we go out. You just have to be a little creative and flexible. Try to go to places where you can look at the menu online to be sure they have something for you. One of the places I love to go is Cracker Barrel because they have low carb options and they serve breakfast all the time so I can always get a couple of scrambled eggs and some veggies. There are foods that should be off our mealplan for good now, but that's mostly because nobody should be eating them in the quantities we did as preops. Maybe for a while you don't go out to eat if it's that much of an issue for you. I don't mind what other people eat; I have a larger agenda in my head, and it's ok if people eat bread or chips in front of me. I'd suggest you work a little on your perspective. You said it's torture because you can't have these things, but isn't it more accurate to say that you CHOOSE not to have those things anymore because you CHOSE to have weight loss surgery? It's not a magic fix, but taking the power back might decrease the sense of deprivation I hear in your words. (btw, I don't mean to sound preachy; I know it's not easy; I'm not that far ahead of you and I have my bad days too, just thought a different way of looking at it might help). I hope you have a great day!
