Daily Post--1/28/08
We'll veer away from food for today! It is Monday and many of you are probably making up for weekend allowances??? We all do it! I had two little cookies after dinner at a friend's house last night... Do I stress over it? No. Do I do it every day? No. Once in a while IN MODERATION....
SO, today's question is this:
What's the best thing about WLS if you're a post-op? And, if you are preop, what are you looking forward to about postop life?

The best things for me,is being able to enjoy things I didn't enjoy before.Like walking without getting out of breath.Going to my grandkids sporting events and not having to worry if I'm going to have to climb to the top of the bleachers.Shopping in regular stores and have fun doing it.Ofcouse all the health benifits are great.Going out to eat and not having to ask for a table instead of the dreaded booth. Those of you who are post op know "the little things most poeple never had to worry about"

Fullness... meaning... feeling full of life and love and open to what comes my way. Physical strength and feeling unstoppable... I get it!!! Waking up each day, embracing each moment and being amazed by something new. Inspiring others by my energy... shocking people (it's fun!)... Doing everything in this life and not holding back!!!

The best thing for me after wls, is having my health back and being able to do things and not feel like I'm going to drop dead at any moment. That was a feeling I never want to feel again because of Obesity. It was horrifing the first time I felt it, I thought OMG! is this how it's going to be for the rest of my life? Which could have ended at anytime because of all my health issues. Today my biggest issue is will I be done with all my chores in time to get my hip resurfucing and will I recover quick enough to meet the man I've become friends with by the end of March.
It's pretty darn awesome to look to the future, heck just to look at today!

I think, as a 60 year old 2 year post op,,the best thing about the WLS,,is perfect health! I suffered from so many co morbidities, and now they are all gone! No more congestiveheart failure, swollen legs and feet, high blood pressure, joint pain, depression, borderline diabetes, its all gone! At my age, to be on no medicnes other than my vitamins and supplements and an occasional pain reliever for minor arthritis,,is a miracle, and I give the good Lord all the glory for that, He made the way for the surgery!!

Being pain free! No back or leg pain! I now have quality of life!!!
For YEARS my daughter, my self, or one of her family had to get to school avents early so that we could save the bottom row of the bleachers... and they always sat with me.
I also had to stop and rest and catch my breath just walking across the SMALL school walk way to the autotorium.
I now realize how much I was missing out on from life. Alice
Having my confidence back... It has helped me both personally and professionally. I find myself speaking out in meetings more frequently and receiving the notice I always knew I deserved. I just didn't want it because of my desire to be invisible. My husband and I get along a lot better now that we are able to share in the same activities and get back to enjoying each other's company.
Oh yeah, and the smaller bootie!
Best thing is less prescribed medication - went from 13 pills a day to 2 (I don't count my vitamins, calcium, b12 or iron) - my H1Ac is normal and blood sugars, and all other bloodwork is in normal ranges - would do it all again in a heartbeat - I was )( that close to going on insulin (type II diabetes) and told PCP that if I had to regulate what I ate to determine insulin I wanted surgery since I'd have to regulate my food intake anyway - best decision I ever made!!
