Daily Post--1/24/08
Lea,
I have enjoyed my buddy! We write everyday and have been an encouragement to each other, I feel. I would like todo the buddy thing again. Maybe a GROUP of buddies. 2-3 or Challenge TEAMS!!!!!!!!!!!!! You could look up Lighten Up Iowa to see what I am talking about. We are doing it here at work. Teams can't be any larger than 10 people, or they have to be split. Your team has a name and you can enter the weight loss part, activity part, or both.
Each team has a captain, kind of like you are for this whole thing.
Here is the link to Lighten Up Iowa and maybe we could do something like that, just a shorter version.

Tell me what you think....

Good grief, Lea, don't ever apologize for posting the question "late"! I'm just now (at 1:00 A.M.) answering it!
I did not take a buddy for the challenge, and at the risk of sounding unsociable, I still don't think I would the next time. I am newly retired, so you'd think I'd have tons of time, but I'm busier than ever! Besides doing a lot of sub teaching, I love to keep up w/ this board, also the grads board, once in awhile the main board, AND I do a lot of e-mailing to our grown kids and several other friends--as well as reading several people's blogs each day. And I'm always running around doing errands, having lunch w/ somebody, doing something around the house, or just relaxing & reading! So I really don't think I'd want to add yet another person to keep up with!
With that said, it does sound like it's worked very well for most people who have responded.
Like so many others, I appreciate all the work you have done putting this together, maintaining the whole process, and keeping it so interesting with the daily posts. What a commitment!! I thoroughly enjoy the posts, even when they don't particularly apply to me, and I try to respond to almost all of them (I think I've only missed one so far--but I'm going out of town tomorrow & overnight, so I'll miss tomorrow too).
I'm not doing great by any standards as far as losing weight, BUT I'm still plugging away and am not giving up!

I like my buddy and I like the idea of having a buddy but I have been a poor buddy to Karen I must admit. Having just had surgery 10 days before the challenge started and being sick all the time I have not been as socialable. It is difficult if you tend to have alot of emails to answer also. I enjoy meeting new people and I find it especially enjoyable chatting with those who had surgery close to mine because we tend to encourage each other and can compare notes to see what has worked or not worked for each other. Karen is alot further out than me and she has offered me some good advice which is very helpful but I fear just starting out I am of no help to her since she's done been through it all. I also think that if your someone who is a couple years out from surgery and you are paired with a newbie, one could tend to get discouraged. Regardless, a newbie is going to loose weight and a "veteran" may struggle to lose and to me I would feel discouraged if my newbie buddy was loosing and I wasn't ya know? Just my two cents worth!!

I have two buddies and I like them both. The only thing I can say is that I didn't go into the whole buddy thing with high expectations...we all communicate a few times per week via email and it works for me...while I can't speak for my buddies I can say this is good for me...we see how each other is doing...try to offier encouragement and check up on each others lives...I have enjoyed the experience...I would be happy to keep both my buddies next round...but again..I can't speak for them...they may feel differently.
