I wholeheartedly agree with "Just Jo" - (must be the "Just" thing) - that it will happen, and that you have to be sure you're eating ENOUGH! My surgeon rambled about "going into ketosis", which sounds to me like your body believes it's starving when you don't get enough nutrients, so it holds on to everything and won't let you lose!
I also found that when I remembered to take ALL of my supplements, drink ALL of my water, and do as much physical activity as possible, stalls were shorter.
After the six month mark I started stalling for 2 to 3 weeks a month and then I have a drop. I just got off a 3 week stall and I did the LPT (Liquid Protein Train) for 2 days. Nothing but protein shakes to drink to de-carb my body. This make a good impact on my body. I also try to not eat to few of calories. I have started to focus on Vi****er, protein and exercise and just have to believe that the weight will come off at its own pace.

Lea,
i am currently experiencing a stall that I have been for about two weeks now. I have been counting calories (which I have been flamed by nutritionist for doing) and ramped up the exercise by adding running to my daily routine.
I have been work the hell out of my triceps as they are mushy, I do step aerobics twice a week, and now with my new found love for running...I am doing that on the days I don't go to aerobics.
I hope this breaks the stall...or i will never make my Valentine's goal :o(

Stalls....not a word any of us like. I have stalled many times throughout my journey and I've found the best thing for me is to increase my water intake and then change my exercise routine. This has kept my stalls to about 2 weeks and then the weight would start coming off again. Although I Have to admit that right now, the weight is harder and harder to come off and I'm happy if I can lose 1/2 pound a week right now. I am beginning to think that it's my body's way of telling me that I'm about where it should be. Sound dumb? I don't know.

Ya know I really don't know. I am not sure if its stalling or body adjusting. I only had a few weigh ins over the last year or so that I didn't lose so I guess that sort of could be call a stalled but in fact I was probably just adjusting the mass lol. I try not to buy into the stall thing as it stresses me. I would rather just say "its part of the process" and look forward.

I am almost 3 yrs out and i echo Christine who states do everything you can the first 18 months, although i would lower it to 12 months. My advice drink, drink and drink, I would also incorporate activity and don't forget to measure your body. Sometimes the lbs don't come off but the inches do!For me my body stopped losing at 14 months and every EVERY lb since then has taken tremendous effort and as soon as i get comfortable, up i go to the weight i was at 14 months out. SLOW AND STEADY WINS The RACE!
I had WLS in April 2007, and have been one that hasn't had any real stalls to speak of except in the begining and that was at about 2 months out and it lasted about 2 or 3 weeks. I really don't know what the secret is and all I can tell you is in 2006 I was put on thyroid medication, and I drink my protien at least once a day an try to get all my liquids in. I can't even say exersize has contributed to it because of physical limitations I haven't been able to continue that for about 3 months. Everyone looses at a different rate the best thing I think is journaling everything you take in from water to food and exersize, it keeps you aware of what is going on and then you can make changes accordingly.
I've had several stalls a long the way... I followed the advice of my nut... shake things up... the body is smart... you need to outwit it. I admit two of my two week stalls was more mental than physical... mentally I needed to move forward and get out of the way of myself... Glad to say I'm 17 lbs. away from my low goal and couldn't be more happy!!! A person doesn't lose 151 lbs without a few tough spots. I've also had to work VERY HARD as I'm a slow loser due to metabolism.
How often did you stall during your journey?
About 5X
How long did your average stall last?
1-2 weeks
What did you do or change to break your stall? Changed things up to outwit my bod.
If I was eating too little and exercising A LOT, I'd add more protein.
I stop exercising for three days.
I'd eat more for a few days.
Is there ANYthing you think we can do to help prevent stalling?
Get out of the way of ourselves... we're the only ones who'll prevent ourselves from reaching our goal. Stop the i think i can and just DO!
I hit my first stall in my second week post op. It lasted for about a week, but I just stuck to my program and made sure to keep up with my water intake. The water helps push the fat out of our bodies. I also made it a point to increase my walking by adding 15 minutes. The most important thing is to stick with your eating plan and try try try not to get discouraged. It is completely normal, and will eventually happen to all of us. It is our body's way of catching up. If you stick with your eating plan, it sends signals to the body to let it know that you are not in starvation mode, but rather undergoing a lifestyle change, and it is okay to keep losing.
My doc says there is nothing that can be done to prevent stalls, they will happen when they happen, but perseverance is key!
BEST OF LUCK TO EVERYONE
