Daily Post--1/1/08
i didn't really have anything to resist as i didn't go to any parties. we live in a dry county (yes they still exist!) and so there is no alcohol available unless we drive over an hour to pick it up. so we very rarely drink. i only had 1 family dinner to go to and 1 thing after a church program. i let myself splurge those times and didn't worry about it.
I just answered the 1/2/08 daily question, and now I'm going back to answer this one. (I was out of town the past 2 days.)
I handled the holidays BADLY this year, so enough said about that.
This Christmas season was my 4th one post-op. Last year, I was kinda bad but not out of control, but this year was terrible. My first 2 years, I did very well. I did not drink alcohol (or soft drinks, for that matter) and simply took packets of Crystal Light with me wherever I went. I was extremely picky about what I ate off the holiday tables and was never totally at a loss for something acceptable. I made sure I'd gotten my protein pretty well taken care of for the day before I went to an evening party or whatever, so I just looked for veggies or fruit or plain things like cheese. Sometimes a couple mini meatballs or something relatively decent like that. And I was also faithfully doing my (almost) daily exercising at the gym.
So I know it can be done, and I know that when I'm eating the way I should be, it's not that bad resisting temptation! It's once I start messing with crap that I GET MESSED UP!!
We spent Christmas in Oregon with my parents and my brother and sister-in-law. My mom had WLS two years before I did, so I have a compadre there. I really didn't do well this year avoiding the See's and cookies... but I have no one to blame but myself (and my boss, who gave me a two-pound box of See's!)
I didn't gain much, and it's probably the small gain that prompted me to join this challenge - so I'm ok with that!
I don't drink alcohol - I had a sip of a mimosa at my cousin's wedding shower last summer, and it was HORRIBLE! Now, I avoid anything alcoholic. Doesn't bother me at all!
Since we drove 1100 miles (each way), I took lots of nuts and water for the trip... eating on the go is difficult! We tried to stop to eat at real restaurants and avoid the fast food as much as possible, but occasionally, we had little choice. I have found that bread doesn't work for me, but tortillas don't cause me any trouble...
Last year was much more difficult (at about four months out), but I did much better sticking to my plan then!
I pretty much just ate what I new my stomach could handle which was protien and veggies and fruit. As far a alcoholic beverages go I would sip one mixed drink most of the night and the drink either water or ice tea the rest of the night. As far a deserts I could only eat a very, very small piece no matter what it was.
