Happy New year Everyone!! Well for me being only almost 2 weeks postop I don't have anything positive to add. We didn't do any parties this year and truthfully I'm glad because I know it would have been difficult for me. Each day is still a learning experience and at almost 2 wks. post op I have discovered that maybe I don't get hungry but the temptation to eat the things I love and miss are still there thanks to head hunger!! I look forward to reading the posts and learning from others. God Bless, Kellie

I have not done in drinking in several years, due to the combo of meds that I was on and being diabetic. Now the meds are no longer needed, and I have no symptoms of diabetes. But still no liquor. . just don't need it. I now office out of my home, so I was not tempted by office goodies. I went to a friend's house for Christmas. She fixed ham and I took deviled eggs. She had other things, most very friendly to me. . so things haven't been too bad.

Hi Lea, I'd like to wish everyone a Happy, Healthy New Year and much success!!! For a successful party experience ~ I make sure I bring a cheese dish and some fruit... that way I know there is something full of protein and something a little sweet (in case I want something sweet) I don't really do buffets ~ haven't done any since surgery On drinking ~ I'm not a big drinker, I will have maybe 1/2 a glass of wine... I had 1/2 a glass at our company party and 1/2 a glass at our friends post Christmas party... My party experience was different, because instead of sitting the whole time and feeling self concious ~ I participated!!! I had much more fun socializing!!! Doris

Boy am I glad this season is over! I went to so many parties and it was indeed hard to resist all of the tempting snacks aqnd drinks. Unfortunately I did awful and snacked/drank lots of bad things so I don't have many tips to share. I'm the one that needs them! Back on track in 08' though!

Because my stomach is so small, any/all holiday portions are considered a buffet. The trick for me was moving away from eating activities, and trying to start new traditions. You'd be surprised how many people would like to do something besides sit around and eat!! Find these people because they are your new friends!! As for drinking, not an issue for me as I am Mormon (a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints). I live a law of health whi*****ludes obstaining from alcohol. p.s. anyone who thinks they may want to learn more about Mormon faith from a reliable source (i.e. the actual church, and not a 3rd party) are welcome to peruse www.mormon.org

I am cheating and respoding a day late. I did not do anything for New Year's. I don't drink so I didn't have the temptation. My life post-op on New Year's was just as exciting as it was Pre-op. We did sit around and watch the re-run of Barrett-Jackson's 2007 Scottsdale Auto Auction which we went to in January last year. Couldn't get anyone to go again this year though. LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!! Happy New Year, Katy

Hey. Day late here but posting anyway. Since I was just 1 week post-op on Christmas it was easy. I just kept sipping tea or broth. We had a Christmas Eve party but I stayed busy with the kids. New Years was easy because it was just us. We'll see how I do in the future. It was great reading everyone's tips. I'm sure they'll come in handy later on.

Hey I was looking for this post earlier in the day! Okay I guess I didn't really go to many parties. I did drink one glass with christmas dinner and a few glasses when I was out with friends. I really just avoided a lot of the sugar treats, cookies, candy and stuff they always have. I didn't do anything special at all for new years and didn't drink new years eve.

Wow, I can't say that I have any successful party-going experiences. I did not manage the "buffets" and snacks very well. I am actually only up 1.5 pounds from the holidays which is pretty darn good, but I also found out that I can't control myself around certain foods, mainly sugary things since I don't dump. As far as alcohol, I recently started drinking small amounts of wine. I don't know why I have started this, I do only have 1 glass evey once in a while, but I have not drank anything since 2000, so why all the sudden now is beyond me. I do believe my party experience is much different that post-op. Even though I still indulged, it was not as much as it was in the past, I can actually stop eating now and just say no. Wow, I really feel like I rambled on this one. Maryann

I think I managed pretty well this holiday season. What I did was elected to eat BEFORE I went to gatherings, so that I would be less tempted to eat. When I did snac****pt it focused on protein packed healthy snacks like sliced turkey or cheeses. I did try alcohol for the first time since my surgery. I found that it affected me quicker, but also wore off more quickly as well. I did not abuse it though. Happy New Year!
