My current weight is 155. Wasn't I that last week. Sigh Anyhow, my daughters both have to watch their weight. I believe me having this surgery will make them both watch a little closer so they don't have to go through what I have went through. Thanks Lea brenda

My current weight, is still unchanged. 185.5 today (Thursday, I'm always so late in answering!). I have 2 kids, one thin one who struggles constantly. He is 23, and doesn't live at home, so I don't know that my surgery impacts him much. When he diets he goes low carb, and is usually successful. He looks fantastic right now. I hope he can maintain that for life. My daughter is 17, 5'6" and about 110 lbs. I'm so jealous of her beautiful waistline, and gorgeous upper arms...lol...

Hi Lea, I don't remember if I posted last week, but here you go: Last week: 300 Currrent: 295 Challenge Goal: 285 I don't have any children yet. The ability to get pregnant was one of my main motivators for having WLS, and I hope to start a family as soon as possible. I have often thought that if I have kids I will be vigilent with their food options and activities to make sure that they don't become obese. Both my husband and I have food and weight issues, so it will definately be a challenge. I don't know if I could bear to have a daughter go through childhood with all of the obesity related unhappiness that I did.

I just checked in again as I haven't since we started the Halloween Challenge. I didn't realize how involved you all are. Great group support and I will check in more often. I am now 17 months out and have lost a total of 162 pounds. I am doing good on the Halloween Challenge. My weight on 9-3-07 was 164.8 Currently is 159.0. Halloween Goal is 155 I am impressed with this myself. I usually lose about 2 to 3 pounds a month and have an occ. good month of 6 to 8 pounds so guess this may be one of those months. I hope so, as I am close to my goal of 150. I have two grown sons *****ally do well watching their weight, mostly due to my wonderful daughters-in-law!! They could both put it on in the waist line but also being men, they can take it off fast. My oldest is 6 ft 4" and my youngest is just under 6 ft. I am short---only 5' 4.5". Wish I could grow and then would not have to lose the last nine pounds!!! But at 59 years old---that ain't gonna happen!! Julia

Well here I am..... Current weight::186 YAHOOO!!!!!! My fiance and I don't have kids yet but definitely plan on kids in the future....and I just hope and pray that I'm able to influence them in a postive way with healthy eating habits and exercise habits b/c I would not want them to have to go through what I went through as a child. As far as kids in my life....amazingly...there aren't any. All of my family lives in Arkansas....and my fiance's family doesn't get together...but I can see my eating habits affecting my friends/family.....they are all very curious and asking all kinds of questions! I've also noticed since I had surgery I notice things more often....such as::we met some friends at McD's (I only had a few bites of burger NO BUN)....and I saw this little kid probably about 8 or so....severely overweight....was eating 2 double cheese burgers, some fries THEN the adult w/ them bought them an ice cream cone....I just wanted to cry for them.....

Hi Lea! What a fun thread, and I will be happy to participate! First-the question of the week, about our children. My son is now 23. I like to say we raised each other-as I had him when I was 18. Patrick watched me struggle with my weight for all his life. Yes-he even developed a fear of gaining weight for a short time. Once i discovered this-we had to have a heart to heart. Patrick was frightened when I had my surgery-but he supported me all the way. And let me tell you as time has gone by he is so excited for me. He lives up in Alaska-he works on the pipeline-so I haven't seen him in a few years (sniffle!). I send him pictures of my updates. When I sent the most recent he wrote back and said "Mom! Do you know I have NEVER seen you like this? You look amazing!" I cried and cried. He said he was so happy I would be able to have a longer and healthier life. I do think it caused my boy some emotional pain-of course-but now he also knows what it's like for someone to get up and fight the good fight and never give up. As a matter of fact, my son is going to check in with a nutritionist because he said he wants to be make sure he takes good care of his body since we are all somewhat "prone" to obesity. He said he knows he isn't obese but he wants to take care of himself. I felt like that was a very positive thing. High Weight: 383 Surgery Weight: 359 current weight: 220 Halloween goal: 210 (OH HOW I WANT to make it to ONEDERLAND!!) Hugs! Therese

Last week - 302 This week - 300.2 Halloween goal - 260 I did a much better job of exercising this week, more intensity! We don't have kids, but my niece (who I helped raise) and her husband share a house with us and they have five kids, ages almost 10 down to twins who are two. All of the kids are slender now, as my niece was before she hit puberty. Their father is an excellent chef and all the kids eat well balanced meals. Sweets are limited and snacks are on a schedule and healthy. The two older kids are mature enough to understand the surgery I went thru, and they've seen me drop 100 lbs since February. The oldest doesn't like meat and loves sweets, but is kept in check. The second would rather have fruit than candy or chips. I think watching my battle may have a subtle impact as they get to middle and high school.

MY one and only child is overweight and this surgery has had a positive impact so far on him. He sees healthy choices and is starting to make them for himself to some degree. People in the grocery store laugh when they hear him reading labels to me focusing on sugar and protein. It really is cute. He also has been hopping on my gazelle to "exercise" and loves that mommy can shoot hoops with him now. This week's weight is 256. Excited to see the numbers move! Heather
