Lea; I am currently at 237 so I think that is a 3lb weight loss in the last week.......YIPEE! As far as the kid factor, my kids are 26, 23 and 20 and they are all obese. My youngest had RNY surgery 6 weeks before I did and she is down 100lbs. She was my child with the biggest weight problem but not anymore. My oldest daughter is overweight but she is a bigger build and carries it better but she is still obese. My son is 6'3" and over 300lbs. He carries his weight ok but he knows he is overweight and talks about having to diet. He moved into his own apt 2 months ago so we will see what happens. They have always seen me and many members of our family struggle with weight issues so hopefully this will wake them both up and they will be able to take control of their own situations.

Wow! The weeks are starting to fly by since my surgery. On Saturday I weighed 279 and I can't forget what I was last week. It's been so hectic at work. Anyway, I have a 16 year old son. Since I was an overweight child, I have tried my best to make sure that my son wasn't overweight. I noticed that recently he has given up all soft drinks for water and is eating a bit healthier. I belive tha****ching me over the last two months change both in physical appearacne and my eating habits has rubbed off on my son. I only hope that he continues this as he matures. He is very active as he plays football so he gets plenty of excercise. He has even offered to help me with lifting weights. I also think this has brought us closer together. Thanks and Hugs, Beth

Hi Lea, Not been a good week at all for me...in fact I gained 2 lbs.! Yesterday was really, really bad! It just seemed like I couldn't get enough to eat! Anyways today was much better than yesterday. I had a protein shake, some chili, and for supper I had some pizza toppings. I didn't want to overdo it again today, so I thought I would take it easy on myself. I guess it's that head hunger thang goin wild on me lately! I had three boys...the oldest has always been healthy and ate healthy and has never had a problem with his weight at all....and my youngest son is skinny as a rail!! He takes after my dad and my dh dad. My middle son was overweight but since I had my surgery he has lost all of his weight and looking great! My kids are more active than they used to be also. 226 last week 228 this week halloween challenge 216 i think surgery weight 326

SO, I waited till now to post my own info. I had my one year followup with my surgeon today. Here's a copy/paste of what I posted to the main board. The gist of it, if you don't care to read it all, is that I'm at 224 down from 410. I've lost 186 pounds! First surgery consult was 7/13/06. I started a voluntary diet that day (not required to lose any, but wanted to shrink liver) and lost 24 pounds from 410 to 386 by surgery date of 8/29/06. I know deep in my heart that the only thing that kept me on track those 6 weeks was the knowledge that in just a few more weeks I'd have the help I needed to continue to lose AND to keep it off this time! SO, as a preop, I lost an average of 4 pounds per week! Who'd have thunk it? My 1 year postop surgiversary was actually 8/29, but my 1 year followup with my surgeon was not till today. I was 224 in the office today, so that is a total loss (since first consult) of 186 pounds! OMG! Again, who'd have thunk it? My surgeon said that I was "doing an amazing job." How's that for a good report? LOL My body fat percentage was 39. I started out at like 56%. He did say that I'd lost 12 pounds of muscle mass in that time and that it should be less than 10 pounds of muscle lost for a total of 200 pounds of weight loss and I'm only at 186 lost, so a little above the curve on that one. He encouraged me to start really focusing on weight/resistance training. But, other than that, all was good today! I also got to have lunch with my surgery buddy just before our appointments and we had a good chat about life since surgery. We haven't had much time to chat this last six months! On another note, my 15 year old daughter now weighs MORE than I do. She weighed in at 230 to my 224 and she has a higher fat percentage and less fat free mass (muscle) than I do. SO, I guess we can compete from here on out! LOL Normally this time of year she's in marching band and doing practices 3 nights a week for their weekly field show at the Friday night football games. LOTS of marching and they do it up and down a hill by the school, NOT on the football field! But, she opted to not do band this year and focus more on her business classes PLUS no gym class as she took that last year too! I've got to get her more active again. At 5'6" tall, 230 pounds is pretty chunky... After all those years of being morbidly and then super morbidly obese, I never would have thought I'd weigh less than my girls. The older one is only 165 pounds and close to 5'8" tall (same height as me), so not there yet, but certainly below the younger one and hoping that we can lose together from here on out rather than me widening the gap between us. I wish this kind of success for each and every one of you who pursue this journey! With my goal weight of 185, I had 225 excess pounds to lose. I've lost 186 pounds or 82% of my excess weight. I have said all along that I'd be happy to reach "anything that starts with a one" which would, obviously, be a minimum of getting to 199. If that is where I land, then I will have lost 93% of my excess weight! NOW, if you want to do the math for reaching a weight that actually puts me within the "normal" range of BMIs for my height, then I'd have to get down to 159 or lower. 159 would be a total of 251 pounds of excess weight. That would mean I've already lost about 74% of my excess weight and at 199 would have lost 84%. NO matter how you look at it though, I weigh now about what I did between my 8th and 9th grade years in school! (1981 by the way!) I am about 40 pounds lower than when I graduated from high school in 1985 and about 50 pounds lighter than when I met my hubby in 1987. He loves me at the weight I am now and it dawned on me the other day that he never knew me at this weight! LOL Enough for now! Hugs, Lea

I have 3 kids. 36yrs(obese daughter)32yrs (overweight son) 30yrs(very thin & active) hubby(overweight in the belly area) I feel very guilty about my kids. axspetally my daughter. she is over 300 now. Her daughter is chunky but headed there. I so wish this had been an option for me in my younger yrs. but I try to encourage them now. as far as the hubby goes. I try to talk to him about his weight, but he's not listening. and as we all know " we each have to make the decision to lose weight. i can't do it for him. Brenda

Hi Lea! I saw your one year post and wow.. terrific!! So happy for you! HW: 328 SW: 280 LW: 155.4 (i think) CW: 153.6 I am seeing the slow down as I get to goal but I know that is normal. As far as kids, we don't have any but it is funny you mentioned this. And this is meant as a joke so no one get offended ok? I said we should donate our kids to science when we have them since both of us have had RNY.. see if they end up getting obese b/c this would be a good test to nature vs. nuture! I know its demented but I can see a scientist wanting to research it! haha..
