What do you think> Posted on grad board
Had a really strange reaction the other day and wanted to ask the other longer term grads about it.
I was at a conference with my principal. Had my breakfast at home, stopped for coffee on the way, and avoided the "breakfast" there: muffins, bagel, and the like. Lunch was one of those boxed things: turkey sandwich, oily pasta salad, cookie, fruit cup and A STARLIGHT MINT. I tossed the pasta salad back in the box, fed the cookie to my principal, tossed the bread, and ate the fruit cup. About two hours later, I was fiddling with the mint and ate it. As we stood up to leave, I came as near to passing out as I ever have. Sat down quickly and my principal, bless his heart he didn't know me pre-wls and thought I was dying on him, sat there with me about 10 minutes until the real dizziness passed. He wanted to follow me home but I said I was fine (better but fine wasn't really it). Came home and collapsed on the bed for 45 minutes. Then I was fine.
I think it was the damn mint!!!! The only other time I have had such a reaction is when the doofus at Panera make me a full-sugar instead of a sugar free coffee drink.
What's strange is I do not have any type of reaction with chocolate candy or a cookie. Maybe it's the sugar mixed with other elements that slow down absorption with these items.
What do you think?

Karen,
Though you'd think it would take more sugar at once, this sounds like dumping... It had definitely been long enough after your meal for the food to have moved on and I bet you'd drank in that time too, so would have pushed the food on down the intestine. Sounds like that sugary mint hit the intestine and knocked you for a loop!
The last time I dumped, I had eaten some pulled beef (smoked beef pulled apart in to pieces to add BBQ sauce to for BBQ sandwiches). I didn't eat any bread and, as I'd been having okay luck with a BBQ sauce I have at home, I drizzled about 1 tablespoon of sauce over the meat and ate it like that. Well, 20 mins later, I was in hell! I was standing talking to another 4H mom when it hit me. She asked if I was okay and I told her it was something I ate. As she'd eaten the same food (4H dinner at our fair), she was concerned. I told her "No! Altered intestinal tract issues, not food issues!" LOL She was thinking food poisoning! LOL I had to sit and suffer for 20 mins before I could even get up and walk with any balance again! UGH... Got to love dumping, right? (Not!)

Hi Lea!
That poor 4-H mom! You said the same thing to her that I said to my principal and he got this look like he would be next!
You know when I think about it, it was pretty classic dumping. I also had gas pains (I just assumed it was because I had been "polite" all day and not tooted in the enclosed space
Everyone on the grads board is suggesting peanutbutter crackers (which I do keep in my car for traffic jams/blizzards) but the last thing I could have done at that moment was eat anything
On another topic, the 5 + one plan is working pretty well! (5 protein drinks/bars and one meal) I lighten up on weekends and have three regular meals but the snacks have to be protein bars/shakes. I'm going to give it a two week trial and see what success I have!
Have a cool weekend (BRRRRRRRR!!!!!)
we had food day yesterday i work, i took a vegie platter (zucchni, squash, broccolini, carrots, celery) and some low fat ranch, i also keep soy crisps in my drawer... so i had some vegies and a spoon of three layer dip (cheese, salsa, greenonion, and spoon of pimento cheese, and a spoon of my dip, it went down great, i chewed chewed chewed, however 20 mins later Jonny don't bar the door, oh my goodness pain city and gassy and it was over, i felt sick for two hours and had to sit there and take it... i was then temped to eat 1/2 of a sugar free govdiva choc bar, what the he..?
