Hi, I'm newly post-op too (almost 4 weeks). First, if she is still gassy she needs to walk, walk, walk. I swear its the only thing that works. But, there are lots of kinds of pain so make sure its gassy. Second, she has to sip constantly if she is going to get the "stuff" down. Personally, I couldn't do the protein shakes. I am severly lacking right now in protein. My surgeon wants us to do skim milk instead anyways. Could she do that instead? Alternately there is a product out there called Nectar that you mix with water that has protein and apparently is quite good. I, personally, only got 2 meals in per day. Its all I could force. I am now working towards 3. Food is important, but if she is getting protein shakes in then she should be getting a lot of her nutrients in. Lastly, she has to try, but also has to trust her body. She is not going to feel hungry. She just has to take it slow and make herself. Try to stay upbeat while she's cranky. I know I was pretty cranky (I also had a lot of reflux/stomach ache issues my first 2.5 weeks). Ultimately, its her decision to have surgery and her decision to do her aftercare. You can't force her to do anything or be responsible if she doesn't do it. You help, give her the option and if she chooses not to you have to accept that. Good luck! I hope it gets better!

Hi! I'm the one tht called Sherri today Things are going to be rough for her for a while til she gets into a routine and gets use to her new lifestyle. Her being irratible is normal. Hang in ther with her. Things will get better. When I first got home from the hospital, I called my surgeon back and told him that it was impossible for me to drink 64 oz of water and all that protein. He said yes, it is impossible at first so I just need to do the best I can with water and protein. I lived off yogurat, pureed tuna, mashed potatoes and refried beans the first few weeks. I could only eat 2 tablespoons at a time. Even if she gets full fast, the little bit of food, water and protein in that she is getting in is helping. Don't force her. Her new pouch will let her know what enough is enough. For gas, walking will help. I just walked up and down the halls everytime I woke up. I am only 2 months post op and things are just now starting to feel "normal". You are such an awesome gf for being there for her. Tell her she is in my thoughts and prayers. Take Care, Kay

Hey sorry to hear that Sherry is still not feeling well. I think that if Sherry is still very gasy she really needs to get up and walk. I know that with her being so uncomfortable its not going to be hard. However, the gas has to pass and the one way to make it go is for her to up and walk. Even if she only walks around the house, she really needs to walk. I know when I first came home, I could not eat (or drink) very much. It was very hard for me to even take small sips. When you are literally not thirsty or hungary it makes it hard to force things into your mouth. But, if she is not getting fluids into her body she will dehydrate. And, that is not a good thing. Let her get all in that she can, that is all she can do. Sherry is going to be very irratible until she is feeling better. Please tell her that LIKE ALL THINGS, THIS TOO SHALL PASS. Please let her know that she is in my thought and prayers, Melissa

I know you are very worried about her, but everything she is going through is normal. With time she will start eating and feeling better. I think the best thing to do is for her to eat what she can, sip as much water as she can, and walk whenever possible. She is very blessed to have such a loving and caring partner. I am so happy for both of you. Please give her my love and let her know I am praying for her. Hugs, Rosa

It is very difficult to get in all your liquid and protien when you are gassy. It is not uncommon. Sherry needs to try to walk walk walk to get rid of the gas and sip constantly at protien and water. It will get easier. If the gas becomes a big problem or if she is not getting close to getting in all of her liquids and protein call the surgeon. I had a tube in my old stomach for a month and would open the tube to get instant relief from gas. I know my surgeon is one of the few that use that tube in the old stomach but if she by chance has one talk to her surgeon about opening it to release the gas pressure. (even with that tube I had gass issues but they were far less than others have had.) Give Sherry my best, chip
