Issues with eating
Hey Family
Before I had this surgery, I promised myself that I would do everything right and do what my surgeon says. Since surgery, I hate to eat. I have to make myself eat. I eat because I know I need to, not because I want to. I don't want to get sick for not eating enough. It's been almost 2 months since surgery and I thought this would of past by now but it hasn't.
Today I had a protein shake for breakfast, Less than 1/2 a grilled chicken breast for lunch and another Protein shake for Dinner. I probably will have another shake for snack since I didn't eat today.
Is not eating going to make me sick?? Should I call my surgeon? This is getting me really upset because I want to be healthy.
Thanks in advance
Kay
Kay,
I am glad to see that you are eating something. I know what you are eating may not seem like much to you right now, but trust me it is. There are days when I do not eat anything, the only thing that goes into my system are liquids. Having to force yourself to eat does not make things better. I am almost three months out and have just recently started to get the hunger feeling back. You are drinking your protein drinks, so that does take care of the protein you should be getting. It also takes care of the amount of liquids you should be getting in one day. I do not want you to get sick from not eating, but at the same time I do not want you to get to the point where eating makes you sick. (if that makes any sense) I think that maybe you should talk to your nut about it, and see what they say. It seems like doing that will make you better.

Hi Kay, I am sorry that you are having this problem, I can't really give you alot of advise about it since I am still pre op, But I do feel that this is really bothering you. My nutristionist did tell me that I will have days like that where I would have to make myself eat. I think that if you think there is any problems or if you don't understand, you should call your doctor. You have 1 body and if there is a problem get on top of it, don't question anything, call the dr. It is his job to make sure you are okay. I am here for you if you ever need to talk. I want you to be healthy , we are here for support but if there is anything you are questioning call doctor.

Kay,
I think we have all been there. It will pass. At 6 or 7 months out you'll wish you didn't want food. I have to say I still have times when I'm just not hungry. The last few weeks I've eaten hardly anything but I know a few weeks ago I could have eaten a side of beef. It will pass. I don't know that we'll ever LOVE food the way we used to but from what I've experienced we will want to eat again at some point.
