L Word + Update+ Rosa I NEED YOU.
Hi family, just wanted to update you on my progress. I am 37 pound down pre op, I will be having the filter that stop blood clots put in on 3/20 then wls will be on 3/23. My angel will be updating everyone. I have a question for Rosa, on one of your post you said that you had a letter to give to the doctor so that they know to talk to your partner and medical issues. After seeing The L Word yesterday and the way that Dana parents treated Laura , my parnter and I want to have the letter that you had for your partner. Can you please email me a copy of the outline of how the letter should be we would really appreciate it. I love you all thank you for your support.
It is always best to have all your bases covered before surgery. Make sure you have everything lined up before you go in, have an advanced heath care directive, durable powers of attorney and a will completed as precautionary measures. I have had surgery in California, and in Alabama and my partner was never denied information or access to me (that is when I had one.) I thought that intolerance was not realistic, especially if the doctor knows ahead of time, especially in Los Angeles in 2006. For my WLS, my friend was with me (not family) and was treated with respect and my wishes were followed just by asking, I never had to revert to the written documents.

Hi Sherry,
Congratulations on the progress you are making towards your surgery date. You know you are in my thoughts and prayers. I did a little research, and found a good site for your state that may meet your needs. It is the following:
http://dhfs.wisconsin.gov/forms/AdvDirectives/ADFormsPOA.htm
You can get several different forms there like the Living Will, Power of Attorney for Health Care, and for property. I hope this helps. If it doesn't, email me and I can try to fax you a copy of what we have. I don't have it saved in my computer (DUUUHHHH). I can try to scan it and email it, but my scaner doesn't always work too well. Let me know if this link works for you or if there is anything else I can do to help you out.
Also of great importance, I think, is to take your partner to your appointments with you, and have the surgeons and all your doctors get to know her. Let your wishes be known to them, and make sure to give your surgeon, PCP, and the hospital admitting nurse a copy of your legal documents and keep a copy at home for yourselves. Also, have them notarized. Good luck!
Hugs,
Rosa
