Okay-- I dont know how many of you all actually get the resturant cards after surgery where it states that you had gastric bypass and you should have the exception of ordering off the kids menu or senior menu....but I went to Red Lobster last night for one of my college buddies bdays and I asked the waitress if I could have a childrens menu and showed her my card, and before she even had the chance to look at my card and see my condition she looked at me and said "THE KIDS MENU IS ONLY FOR CHILDREN UNDER 10 YRS OF AGE...NO EXCEPTIONS" so I told her that I wanted to speak to the manager. When the manager arrived she had the nerve to laugh in my face and say "I understand exactly what you are going through but I cannot honor your card but I will be more than happy to give you a box for your food....." I was so pissed because first off, I dont think she is compassionate towards people who have the courage to get WLS, and she made me completly humiliated in front of all the other customers. I ended up ordering seperate things on the menu which came to about the same price but needless to say...the waitress got a big fat nothing for a tip and I will be contacting corporate not to mention....I WILL NEVER DINE AT THAT RESTAURANT AGAIN....................... I gave up along time ago trying to get special treatment for having WLS .... so I always order a take out box first, then the food so they understand I expect the box with the food. ... then I order things that are sustainable. It's really better than grocery shopping I get a meal with friends and then 3-5 more meals of shrimp/lobster/etc.....certainly cheaper than protein supplements Or, I order a small cup of soup and a plate and my friends each give me a bite or two of their meal and I'm full!! The people who count understand me. the rest can go blindly into their own ingnorance. Jody

OMG that is so horrible. I think that if I were you I would have been more than pissed off. I would have asked to speak to the manager also. Then when the manager didn't have any respect for me, my true self would have come out. How dare they act the way they did. Who in the H@@@ do they think they are. Do that have some type of written policy that says you have to be under the age of 10 to get something from the child's menu? If I didn't know any better I would swear that is some type of discrimination. Please look into that and let us know how things go. I am pissed just thinking about it. I have not eaten out yet, and I do not have a card. But, you can bet that when I do get one and do eat out I am going to throw a total fit if that ever happens to me. I am so very sorry that happened to you, it should have never happened. Melissa

It is unreal the ignorance of some people and businesses. I too will boycott Red Lobster in sisterhood w/ you and my WLS buddies. Please let us know who we can contact to place a complaint. And also, please let us know how it goes for you. The only way to make things change is to have a voice and stand together! Good luck!!! Hugs, Rosa

I tried to order a kid's entree at an Outback. The waitress told me that it was only for 10 and under. I told her I was 9 years old. And I said that I'd rather be able to give her a great tip for wonderful service than order the food I could never eat. She gave it to me . And I did tip her generously. The next time we went there, I split an entree with my dining companion. Use your judgement. But I'm finding that it's easier to split an entree or order a side/appetizer than going through the BS with servers. Some will really still go out of there way to give you awesome service when you split.

It's happened to me too. I threw my card out a long time ago. It's just easier to order something and bring it home for a few meals than it is to try to get some people to understand. I also now prefer to tell my story when and to whom I want to, rather than to share it to people in restaurants for a smaller meal. It actually made me feel like I was begging or something. That's just me though. Besides all that, I don't mind left overs and I certainly don't mind not having to cook. TWWWWWWWPPPPPPPPPTTTTTTTTTT to those people at Red Lobster! Best, Amy

"No Red Lobster for you!!!" I do hereby declare I will not go into a Red Lobster until they fix their policy!!! Sharing entrees does help...Also, when I order salad, I make sure to not get any dressing on the leftover lettuce so that it lasts. I love chicken in my salad, so I find myself ordering that all the time. Take care! -Cheri
