Today is my first day back at work since surgery, does any one have any suggestions? I normally stand on my feet for 10 hours a day, but today I only work half a day. I normally eat fried foods. Today I know that I cannot. I normally am not nervous, but today I am. Anyone have any suggestions?? Melissa

Congrats on the return to work! ! I remember feeling really frustrated when I returned to work because it felt like so much had changed for me. I didn't quite know how to make my way in the work world. I have found, though, that it's important to me to prepare my snacks and meals in advance, as well as bring along all my beverages. If I leave it up to eating/drinking what's availablae to me, I inevitably make poor choices, don't eat enough, eat too much, get pissed, etc. Also, be prepared to feel wiped out at the end of your half day. Although you might be feeling near perfect, the stress of work and the exertion you'll put it will take it's toll. and I guess that's pretty normal. Check in later today and let us know how it goes! I know that this will get to you late, I'm sorry for that. But, I found that going back to work was the best thing I could do. I was really having a problem with depression at home. Getting back to work put me back in the bigger reality picture with lots of people to interact with and who were all very supportive. Food should actually be fairly easy too. For a half day all you need to pack is a yogurt or cottage cheese and some applesauce or something. You'll have already made sure you have your water so all you need is an ice pack and a spoon. Habits are hard to break to be sure, but food habits will be much easier to overcome now that your stomach is not driving you to eat. If you have your 4 oz of something you've packed, you will not be able to eat anyting else and the fried foods will be so much easier to pass up. Take a few deep breaths and remember that you are working on a new wonderful you and you will make it thru anything. God bless, Sue K.
