Why Don't I Dump Anymore????

I first discovered that I could tolerate sugar when I ate some of my god-daughters halloween candy (only 2 hershey kisses) and nothing happened. So yesterday I ate a small piece of cake, and again...nothin happened. Just a month ago I was dumping off juice, protein bars, nearly anything! Now at just 4 months out I get no reaction. I was relying on the dumping to keep me from eating anything I shouldnt have, but now that I know I can eat it and feel fine, Im afraid..... Two hershey kisses now may turn into a king sized Hershey with Almonds and a dozen cookies! I've always been a junk food junkie and I'm scared I may fall back into my bad habits. I dont have much of an appetite and still cant eat much but I make sure I get all my vitamins and protein in (My physician says I dont eat enough...imagine that!) I just need the will power to stay away from the f%@#* SWEETS!

Hang in there Neshia, try to associate sweet food and junk food one at a time as you confront them. Think back to to really nasty tasting or food that have made you sick to your stomach, project that feeling onto the sweets and junk food. Always keep it as far from you as you can and be sure to ask your loved ones for help and to keep those things away from you. Your operation is your tool as they tell us, but then there is the head work we have to do ourselves. I know you can do it. Huggers! Derrick

Neisha, You just verbalized one of my biggest fears for post-op life. If you drink enough water and focus your attention on getting your protein, maybe you can get your chocolate fix off of protein suppliments. But like Derrik said, if you can keep them away, then they won't be an option. F%@#* sweets are the enemy!!!!! You can do it! Maureen

I found out I can have 1 "fun size" bar or a hershey's kiss without dumping. But I still stick pretty diligently to the 13g of sugar rule, I done surpass it. A Hershey's kiss or 2 I wouldn't think carry enough sugar. If you truely want a reaction eat as many as you would of prior to surgery! Lets see if that gets you sick. Hopefully just the thought of it is getting you sick. You don't need to stay away from sweets, just don't live off them. A guy I know had the surgery lost 75 lbs, and then started living off snicker bars! He took a bit about every half hour. He then had the nerve to ask the doctor why he was gaining weight again. Well I told him and he got mad. I am 6 months out and 125 lbs down. I have my sweets one a day. But no more. Matthew 416/288/199
