Depression when the band is too tight....
I learned something important yesterday.
I take Prozac for depression and I've been pretty good for the last couple of years but recently have hit the hole quite badly.
I went to see my General Practioner who has upped my medication but who also asked whether there had been any physical changes recently.
My band was too tight a couple of weeks ago and apart from being barely able to drink, I also struggled to eat and was bringing up most of what I did get down!
This meant that I was not absorbing my medications and this is not a good thing when you're on anti-depressants or any other kind of medication.
He's given me a prescription for the liquid form of the drug which should help prevent this situation occurring again.
I just wanted to pass this on to others - particularly those of you taking life-saving medication (and I consider anti-depressants to be that!) or the contraceptive pill or any other kind of drug.
I can't tell you what a relief it was to realise that my recent bout of "black dogitis" is related to my medication level dropping. I've had depression more or less all my adult life and it's only with the newer drugs that I've had any real relief. Feeling like I was going back into the black hole was not good.
Take care

Charlotte,
I too take Prozac, and this is good to know. I am having the RNY on Tuesday and mal absorption is an issue for me. It usually takes a cuple of weeks to notice the difference so it will be something to be aware of about 3 weeks after surgery.
I remember when I went back on Prozac about 2 years ago, my doc called it an "old" drug. I don't care how old it is, it helps!
