Well I have been spending the whole weekend reading books on WLS. I want to be fully informed so I can know what to expect. I called my insurance company and it seems as though I will be approved after I complete a six month supervised diet and excersize program. I am a teacher, so I am wishing for surgery in june so I will have some time to recover. I am attending my first support group meeting on tuesday and I am planning on calling to make my first appt. with the weight loss clinic tomorrow. I still have not talked to my family about my decision, but I have been talking about it with my partner non stop. I think I wil wait until after my first appt. with the surgeons office before I talk to mom. One question: how do you start a journal type thing in your profile. I enjoy reading others info and would like to start my own, but cant seem to figure it out. Thanks so much, sierra

Welcome to our family here Sierra. Yet another teacher to add to our family (I am also a teacher as well as a few others here). I didn't necessarily go out and read a lot of books, but I used this website and clicked on many links to read about the surgery. My surgeon gave a pretest to see how much we knew, and he was very surprised at how much I knew. I think that's a wise decision to get very informed. I just had my surgery during my time off (we are year around) and I am glad I didn't have to take time off. The only thing I had to take time off was for all of my appointments. But if you are not planning to have surgery until June, then perhaps you can fit them into your spring break. I didn't tell my mom about the surgery until the week before. I waited to tell any family until I was approved as well. As for the journal thing, on the yellow bar at the top of the page, you want to click on "My Profile." It may ask you to enter your password to login. Scroll down a little, and the first heading on the left hand side should say, "General Info (update your profile here)." Scroll down a little bit, past all your name, address, etc. and there is a field labeled "Comments," this is where you will enter your journal information. It is right above your height and weight area. I hope this helps! Happy journaling to you.
