Five plus years out....
5 years plus 6 months ago I had RNY.......almost 5 years ago now, I had some PS done in Mexico. Life is very different than it was post surgery....From my RNY I went from a high of about 250 down to about 115. I have since stabilized around 130-135 which seems to be about right for me. I also lost the partner I had at the time....at least another 250 pounds if I recall correctly. It was a lot of change in a very short amount of time. And for someone who had ate to deal with stress....well...that wasn't available to me as a coping mechanism. Still isn't something I can do without problems. Still need to chew and eat slowing.
I started out crazy with exercise....a new life style and I reccomend that, in balance to everyone. It will make you mood better, maintain your weight loss better and really help you with getting a new life style that is not centered around food. It is also way cool to do things you haven't been able to do for a long time.
In regards to the PS......one major side effect of losing weight.....is a lot of extra skin. At least for me. While i am glad I got rid of the loose skin (and it helped with my body image) I am not happy that I did it in Mexico. I still have ongoing medical issues related to that decision. I would say yep, if you can , have PS. but i would also say do it in a county where real medical care is available for you. While I am thankful for the support I got through OH for my RNY, I think I was mislead by the focus on PS and surgery out of the US.
The main life change for me has been around food. I eat healthy. Really healthy. And I don't believe all the nutrition and sponsored info on this site. My sister is an RD and I have seen enough of their info to see how they support the food cooporations. I am mostly a vegetarian at this point.
I am pretty healthy.....I am able to maintain my weight....and I don't have fears about regain. I maybe get on the scale once or twice a month....I get worried when I lose weight since it usually means I am not working out enough and it is muscle weigh that is going down.
Overall, life is good......I do date but haven't found Ms. Right yet.....I am able to do so much more than I used to. and it is so cool that I am just seen as a slim person now.....by other people and myself. One thing that is interesting about dating is that I meet a number of women who have their own body issues and are prejudice about people who are overweight. It is funny, because they tell me their fears and fat jokes and don't ever thing that it applies to me or my past life.
I wish you all who are out there and wanting to lose weight, the best, you can acheive it.....it is easier if you change your lifestyle.....if you want to maintain all your old habits and just look different....it ain't gonna happen. Get active, give up pop, fast food and junk food....love yourself enough to take care of you....and once you are really taking care of you.....and the focus is no longer on food or eating, weight will no longer be an issue.
Take care, be well....and learn to love the person in the mirror....no matter what the weight is....

I am out 5 + years too from RNY. 320+ to 160 ish. I've gained 10lbs or so, mostly in the last year when work got super crazy and the exercise habit waned. Don't let the exercise drop out!
As for plastic surgery, I did lot like the loose skin but I am not sure I prefer the chronic low grade discomfort with the boob lift or tightened abdomen.
I still weigh myself every day and sort of track exercise/food. I feel like a "normal" person (portions, choice of foods etc.) most of the time.
