Intro - Newbie to the group
Hello everybody,
I am new to the group and had my first visit with the surgeon. I just started on the process of getting all the procedures and visits needed to get my Roux-en-Y approved.
I am 39 and live in Northern VA with my husband. I have always been overweight. I was 230 lbs in college and now I am 330 lbs 15 years later. I am hoping to get under 200 lbs within three years and becoming more active in outdoors activities.
Hi Meyers!
I'm pretty new too. I live in University Park, MD with my wife. We both work for the federal gov. We'd like to increase our outdoor activities too, and love to camp/hike/travel.
Do you know about Adventuring? It's a DC-based LGBT outdoor group: http://www.adventuring.org/cgi-bin/main.asp

Thanks JB!
I will have to check out the group Adventuring. Bryan and I love to camp! we want to do bigger hikes and learn to kayak. It's very hard for us to do them because of our size. Bryan had a gastric bypass surgery 18 years ago, he lost a lot but has gain a lot of it back. He is going to have a revision done around the same time as my surgery so we can do the weight loss journey together.
Welcome to the board! Glad to hear you are starting your journey. Years ago I spent a good bit of time talking on these message boards. There is a wealth of information and experience on here. It is sad to see this board so inactive. Once upon a time it was not. There are still good people hear that are willing to help. Feel free to post anything. It is especially a good place to post WLS issues related to LGBT people. FYI: My husband I I both had WLS. -- tom

Thanks Tom. I have been spending a lot of time on this board and I have gotten a lot of useful information out of it. I am glad this forum exists. My Husband had an RYN done 18 years ago. He lost a lot of weight back then (over 100 lbs) but has put almost all of it back on and he is seeking out revision possibilities.
None of this support and education was around for him back then. He saw a surgeon three times and “boom” he had the operation. We are trying to time the surgeries so that they are close together. We think this will make it better in supporting each other through the first year and after. By doing it together we set ourselves' up for better success. We hope to have everything in order and approved by the first of the year.
