Friends,

I thought I would post here about my upcoming (07/31) revision surgery to RNY from Lapband. I am five years out from WLS. It is easiest to point you to my blog post on this topic where you can read about my journey to RNY.  http://beariatric.com/2013/05/15/revision-surgery-a-new-road-for -me/

As someone who has revised from lap band to RNY I salute your decision to revise.  I too had to revise due to medical reasons. For me it was the fact that during a fill they injected me with a staph infection that could hide anywhere on the band, so it had to go. I only had the band for about a year before I got the infection. I can only say you are taking a very brave step and one that I personally believe was one of the best things I have ever done for myself. I am currently at my goal weight give or take five pounds, and a lot of the credit goes to my RNY. So rest assured you are making a good decision.

Craig,

Nice to hear from someone who made the same choice. I spent a lot of time thinking about how I could maybe get the band to work. I had to face the reality that it was failing and the best thing was to move on. I research both the sleeve and RNY. I am very active in my local bariatric support group and relied on the input and experiences of the group to make my choice. Ultimately, my surgeon who I have had an excellent relationship with for 5 years felt RNY was best for me. I trusted his statement that he knew what my expectations, habits, and personality was and that they lead him to believe RNY was the right choice.

It does feel strange to know that I am starting over again at 5 years in some ways. I at least have a lot of experience and knowledge from the changes I have made.

Glad you are doing so good!  Keep in touch.

Wow, have you explored the VSG surgery? Seems many people opt for the sleeve from the band.

Lisa,

So nice to hear from you. Yes, it wasn't what I had planned to happen five years ago, but it is the right thing to do. I am scheduled for 07/31.
