Gay Parents

I'm not gay but my dad and my "wicked step-mother" are. I call him that affectionately because when he and my dad got together I felt like he was a step mom.

I love my dad and my "step mom" and I am grateful for all the support they have given me through this whole process. It makes me angry when people say derogatory things about being gay or how gay people don't make good parents, especially my own insensitive family (on my mom's side). My dad is the best parent I could have ever had and his partner has welcomed me and my sisters as though we were his family. I think we make him crazy sometimes but through it all they are always there for us.

So I'm giving a shout out to all the great gay parents out there. YOU ROCK!

(Love you dad and JC!)

You made my day.  In your scenario, I would be dad and my partner would be 'stepmother".  Our girls are 10 and 12 and we work so hard to give them a great home and build thier self-esteem.  Thier maternal family is always saying nasty things to the girls about us and I always worry how much of it is sticking.  I figure the best thing to do is just keep supporting and loving my girls, never bad mouth thier maternal family and let them figure it out as they grow.  You give me hope that they will grow up healthy and happy despite all this.

A million thank you's for your post tonight.
