Ran my first 5K today
Well, I ran my first 5K today. After 5 weeks of my C25K training, I took a chance and ran. It was an amazing experience. I was slow (42.40) but ran all except for 4 minutes. It gives me some confidence to keep going and improve my time. I posted my reflections on my blog. If you want, you can read it at http://beariatric.com/2012/04/14/inspiration-perspiration-de dication-and-celebration/. What a difference 4 years makes! -- Tom

Danni -- It is addictive... A Mother's Day 5K, a Memorial Day 5K and an Independence Day 5K. I figured I need to commit to keep the ball (and me) running. -- Tom

Good luck on your first 5K. I learned a lot at my first 5k. Here's my advice to any beginner.
1. Don't let anyone intimidate you. I admit I was since I was never athletic. I found myself on that day running with many people of many ages, stages of physical fitness and abilities.
2. Don't get too caught up at the start with the fast runners. I followed a friend's advice and placed myself towards the back of the pack. I ran a good pace and didn't tire myself out of the gate.
3. Enjoy that victory. Crossing the line was an emotional for me. It will be for you.
4. Don't sweat the time - I knew I would be slow but I was determined. I knew it would be the time that would be my baseline for the future.
Make sure you report back on your run and photos please!

160 lbs lost. Surgeons Goal Reached in 33 weeks. My Goal in 37 Weeks.

Excellent! Congratulations on your success! I used to run about 15 years ago and I have missed it terribly. Before surgery I was too overweight, and my knees just couldn't handle the load. I've now lost about 60lbs since my VSG last November. My goal is to do the Peachtree Road Race (10K) in Atlanta this July 4th! Excited but also nervous. I have been trying to ease back into this so as not to injure my knees. Have you, or has anyone else, had success using glucosamine supplements for your joints? I'm taking them but I'm not real sure if they are doing anything other than slimming down my wallet!
Congrats again and best of luck to you in future races.
