Hey Ya'll I'm here in the liberal Bay Area and I'm just curious how things are in the rest of the nation:

Are you open about your sexual orientation/gender preference at work?

With friends/family?

Do you think you are "visible"?

How do you let people know you are "Family"?

Do you feel supported in your town/city/village? Or at least safe?

Hope this post finds your day filled with love and joy.

I came over here because you said it was sparkly..and I love sparkly!

I live a very open life. We chose to live in Seattle to feel that freedom. My wife and I met in Oklahoma. We couldn't wait to get out of there.

I am open everywhere including work. My coworkers are very excited about our pending nuptials. On July 6th 2013 we are getting legally wed in Seattle. It will be our 29th anniversary. We figure all the petition and fighting will be over by then. If not we will just have a big party. I never thought I wanted to get married until I could. Now I'm overjoyed with the idea of it..oh and picking out the perfect outfit.

We have a son. He is legally both ours. We are out at his school. His school has a non-discriminatory policy. The principal is a lesbian. We've never had a bit of problem with being two big ole dyke mommies.

I think living an open life changes things in ways we don't even know. I'm grateful I live in a place where it's possible.

YEAH! You gals are getting legally married this summer- that is so rad!!! I wish I could legally marry my wife :(   someday... we both are 3rd generation Californians and we really want to get wed in our home state.

Your son is one lucky lil' man-sounds like things are pretty great in Seattle! Hope the recovery is going just as well. :)

Next summer. I decided I couldn't possibly plan a wedding and get a kidney transplant at the same time! IT was cool to get the news about the law passing a few days after I got the kidney. It's like another great blessing.
I am living a blessed life.
I belive the world is changing. I just keep trying to do my part.
I hope you will get to get married too.

We live in an area where people tend to be afraid to come out. People tend to be conservative bigots over in our part of SC. That being said, we are OUT and PROUD. We attend a University that is Very liberal and it is nice.

All of our friends and family know about us and the fact that my fiance is transgendered (FTM) pre-everything. I have identified as a lesbian, but I don't know if I'll still be able to after Mitchell transitions.

Family and friends are super supportive and awesome! :)

I'm so happy to hear that there are liberal places in the South. I tend to think that it's all very oppressive and conservative, so it's good to know that there are bastions of safety!

Yeah, I guess if he's living as a male you're back to being a straight girl, but that's okay you can identify as whatever you want!

Glad that you have loving and supportive friends and family!!!!

I am out everywhere except the gym....I go to a YMCA in a blue collar city where it WOULD be a problem if I were out.
I am very open everywhere else. I am a "Bear" and sometimes people do not think I am gay. I make sure I am open and mention my husband all the time. I do not hesitate. I have been officially married 8 years....I did just have a difficulty at work. It has been cleared up. I am SO lucky to live in Mass. I have had people stand up and give **** to people who made an anti gay comment  . In a straight townie bar.

Kinda ironic that you can't be out at the YMCA! LOL!

There was a lesbian couple who used to come here and they had some difficulties being out in Dracut, so It's great to hear that you have such awesome support from folks!

Congrats on the 8 years, hope it's many many more :)

My husband and I are out at work as wel and pretty much everyone who knows us knows we are gay. Yesterday we celebrated our 20th Anniversary! We live in a very conservative city Fort Worth, TX but there are still very many open minded people here who couldnt care less that we are gay. They love and accept us just the way we are.
