4.5 Years Out and Feeling Great!!!

While I don't come to the site as often as I should, I do check in from time to time to read the amazing stories and marvel over the progress that you have made. At the beginning of my journey I was 345 lbs. with the fear of hitting 400 in the future.  My partner and I decided to have a Gastric Bypass.  We had our surgery on the same day. He lost 99 lbs. and I lost 147 lbs.  It has been a truly amazing journey.  No illnesses, wall bouncing energy and life is great.  However is was not always easy.  My partner's will power is not the greatest.  He comes from a family that cooks home style southern. I try to eat as healthy as I can.  Now I am not saying that a cookie here or there does not sneak in but my tolerance for sugar has deminished so greatly that just the slightest amount over those cookies I still continue to dump so hard and I am afraid to eat them.  My partner however, has turned into the Ring Ding, Little Debbie, Ho Ho King.  This has resulted in him gaining back about 30 lbs.  I gained back about 15 and can proudly say that I stepped up my exercise, water intake and control my portion and have lost 10 of the 15.

So, I guess I am writing this to say to all of you how have not had your surgery, it is truly a life changing miricle  - but you have to work it.  For those of you who might be struggling, sit back and think long and hard of what you want your future to be and take steps in that direction.  For those who have made the necessary changes in their lives, Congrats!!!

I love the thiner side of my life and with God's help pray to never go to the other side again.

Hey, congrats to you for being accountable to yourself and stepping up to the challenge to watch your weight regain!  This is a potential demon for all of us, and we have to be vigilant.

Sounds like your partner has committed to the surgery but not necessarily to the lifestyle change.  Ugh, it's one thing to regain weight on great desserts, but Little Debbie must be some of the lowest-quality stuff you can eat!  Sadly, your partner may be in for more than just a 30-pound regain.  Perhaps you can encourage him to seek the source of his food addictions.

Good luck!

Thanks for the update! I am 3 1/2 years out and maintaining. I know those urges to sneak in a sweet now and then are stronger now. I really have to resist and focus to stay on track. I guess that is no different than most people's battle with weight. Like you, I have no regrets and only positive experiences since my weight loss. It is nice popping back in here from time to time to see what is going on. I love to read the posts from new folks and watch their transformations.
