I have decided to have a revision from a band to a VSG. I was apprehensive about getting the VSG. Something about taking out 85% of my stomach. I have researched and decided it is the way to go for me. I am lucky I have a super supportive husband. I am happy to get back to this forum. It was so fun 3 years ago.

Good for you, Sean.  There is so much uncertainty in life you have to take control of what you can.  If this is what you think is best for you, just do it!

Revision on 01/25/12
Yay! I was banded in March '09 and am revising to RNY on January 25th. I originally wanted the sleeve but because my metabolism is so freakin slow, I'm doing RNY. If you are having issues with GERD, be sure to find out if you'll be okay post-op with the sleeve. With my band, I developed it bad enough that I was on omeprazole and developed lung issues because I'd aspirate at night. I had bronchitis twice within nine months and now have asthma.

On the other hand, I've read many posts here from people who have sleeves and love them. Regardless, I'm so happy that you and I can get rid of these damn crap bands!

Sean, I went into my weight loss journey determined I wanted to have the lap-band...nobody was gonna cut on my parts! But, after doing some more research, I decided the sleeve was what would work best for me. I am the type who did not want to go back and forth to the doc's office for filling the band, etc. I was also told that in about 10 years I'd have to have the band replaced. The sleeve offered me a chance to have "one and done" so to speak. I'm very satisfied with it, and already am taking fewer medicines to control my diabetes and blood pressure at just over one month post-op. Good luck to you and please don't hesitate to contact me if you have sleeve questions.
