Holiday Parties
So now is the time for holiday parties.... I've been to 4 so far this year and have about 4 more to attend.
I tried something a little different last night and it seemed to work for me pretty well.
I ate before I went to the party. I had a small dinner, but it was a smaller portion than usual. I wanted something in my belly but didnt want to be full. Maybe this is not a new idea for some of you but for me it is. I've always confused food/wine with being social and lets face it, that's what got me into trouble also. So it's cool to have this discovery, even if its just for me.
So I went to the party, I had a small plate of food and a couple of drinks and I was fine.... in fact I was full. It was kind of nice because I am a grazer...I had my small plate with me in my hand for much longer than I would have normally. I never had the pressure of someone saysing "eat" or "drink" because I always had something in hand. I know I would have munched on stuff the entire night if I didn't eat something before hand.
And yeah sure... there was a raw veggie plate but I have issues with raw veggies since being banded so that wouldnt have cut it.
I'm pleased with the way I handled it last night, I think I might do this for all of them going forward.
Me :)

That is a good strategy. I have several parties coming up in the coming weeks.

Way to take care of your needs, honey! I really like that idea! If I didn't get morning sickness after most meals, I might do that myself. Wifey's company xmas party is this Wed night. According to how yesterday went... i couldn't eat a damn thing without getting sick.

Glad things worked out for you at the party. I really like the idea of keeping something like that in your hand.
Last week was the party for my previous project (about 1,000 people). There were 3 co-workers there that had RNY surgery about a year ago. We all sat at the same table and it was really great having that kind of support at the big bash.
Last night was the party for my current project. It was a much smaller (about 250 people). It was a buffet with all sorts of food and an open bar. I was very comfortable with my small portion of food and wasn't at all uncomfortable or nervous about my eating habits. In fact, "peter pouch" was very kind to let me know when to stop eating and no issues or problems with eating a small piece of prime rib.
Since I wasn't driving, I also had a glass of wine. It presented no problem. However, in the Men's Forum on this site, we discussed RNY and alcohol. One of the guys cautioned that since alcohol is absorbed in the intestines, it's very common for RNYers to feel the affects much more quickly. Plus, we need to be careful about the sugar content and potential for dumping.
So, be careful during the holiday parties and keep your long-term goals in mind.
