Sleeved & healing!

THANKS to all of you for your support, prayers & positive thoughts!  My surgery on 11/30/11 went very, very well.  I was able to come home the following afternoon.  Now, I am slowly getting strength back and trying to adjust to no solid food, and sipping instead of gulping my liquids.  I notice it is tough to get all the fluids & protein my surgeon wants me to have right now...I'm hoping this gets easier when I move to pureed foods this Weds.

In the meantime I am walking (slowly) on the treadmill each day, just worked up to 30 minutes today.  Using a resistance band for gentle strengthening exercises.  And boy, do I hate broth!  But, this too shall pass.  I'm researching healthy recipes in anticipation of properly feeding this new sleeve when I can!

Again, thank you all for your encouragement.  Have a wonderful and safe holiday season, and scoot over on the loser's bench!

Congrats on your successful surgery! 30 min on the treadmill??? That is amazing! Seriously amazing. I couldn't even think about a treadmill when I was at your point. Try not to stress about getting all your protein and fluids in. It is hard in the beginning but before you know it you will have a whole routine. Stay in touch and good luck!

Congrats! I'm coming up on my one year surgiversary on 12/14....my Christmas dinner was a wonderful pureed black bean & jalapeno soup...it was delicious! Everyone else in the family had lobster & fillet mignon...and I was in the kitchen cooking too...the family kept kicking me out though...LOL

Keep up the walking...I spent more time walking the halls in the hospital (in Tues out Fri) than I did in bed...my surgeon said treadmill in 2 weeks....I was on it the day I got home form the hospital...LOL

Every day will get better...welcome to the Loser's Bench!

James

Hey, congratulations, you're going to be very successful!

Be sure you're following your surgeon's reccomendations for exercise - a lot will tell you to wait a month for exercise to allow the stomach muscles to fully knit and fuse.

Good luck!

Thanks Ruggie!  I saw my surgeon on Weds and he said no abdominal exercises for 6 weeks.  I'm going to start working w/ a personal trainer again around the 1st of Feb, so that should be plenty of time for me to heal.  But, I'll get my surgeon's blessing at the 6 week mark just to be sure.  Happy Holidays & thanks so much for your encouragement.
