Whipping myself back into shape...

Hi All!

I pop on and off here, but I havent been on in a while.  I had RNY two years ago, and have recently gone through a divorce after 12 yrs with my wife.

I am doing very well in most areas, but I can tell weight is creeping on.  I defiinitley haven't been as good as I should have been.  I was 190 at my lowest, and I am almost 215 now.  I know there is some bounceback, but I also know I can get back down under 200.  I was so happy to hit 199!

I know why I am eating (stress, short cuts) and I know what I *should* eat, but I need something to kick myself in the butt.  Anyone in a similar situation?  Anyone have any good ideas?  I know it will come down to me pulling myself up by the bootstraps, but I just haven't done it yet.

I want to get back into the support groups through my hospital, but when my ex left, she also walked out on our son.  Becoming a single parent overnight has been a balancing act! (Let alone the extra teaching gigs to make up the money she took - ugh!  Good riddance!)

I'd love any tips, ass kickings, motivational speeches :)

Thanks, All!

Danielle

Nothing as hard in my life but have gained 10 lbs recently.  It appears to be totally related to altering my exercise regiment.  I stopped going to the gym.  I am still hiking, riding and walking but I guess I am just not getting enough cardio.  Are you exercising?  Can you make time?

Hello Danielle,

I hate to hear about the divorce, and especially having her walk out on you and a child.  That sucks in a big way.  I imagine the stress of that, as well as all the other emotional upheaval, is pretty difficult to deal with.  Make sure and take care of yourself through it all.

I think it speaks to how on top of your eating that you are paying attention to the red flags now instead of further on down the line.  If you pay attention to them now, they'll be a lot more manageable I imagine.  I'm not speaking from experience since I'm only five months in, but it sounds like you are on the right track.  Just get it back on track now before it get's much further away.  Just don't beat up on yourself though.  You're going through a huge ordeal.

Hugs,

Danny

I joined a few hiking and activity meet-up groups some GLBT some not. Most are really good and do walks hikes for all levels and you can bring kids to some of them. Meet-up.com I believe is the main site then just go by your state, town, area etc.... It helps to be active with others... If you are close to Boston - Out to Dance with Liz Nania (the dance director) does GLBT ballroom classess - no partner needed! - Lots of fun and good workout.

I hit a stall and find that if I don't work out I gain a bit.... trying to work through the holiday eating at the moment and the cold dark nights - so for me, joining with people helps.

Hang in there! - Xico
