Hi there - have not been on in a while and am just updating.

On October 28th I had my 39th Birthday. Instead of spending it pigging out on food and cake to make myself feel better, I had a nice simple good meal and a long walk on Ogunquit ME beach with my partner. It was awesome.

I am about 6 months post-op and have 54 lbs. to go until goal weight. I started at 319 when I first was looking into surgery and I am now 214.... still struggle with my relationship with food and on keeping a good activity routine, but for the most part, I am  loving life. I joined a dance class, a bunch of meet-up groups that hike and walk in my area and try to hit the gym. Any GLBT friends in NH, MA, or ME interested in dancing, walking/hiking let me know! :-)

I have hit a few stalls but am learning to keep positive through them.... I can honestly say I do not regret making the decision to have my surgery even with all the hard work!  It feels like a true re-birth.  - Anyway - hope everyone is doing well! - Xico

Xico,
Congrats on your success to date and happy belated birthday. I think most post-ops struggle with their relationship with food. Surgery did not take that away. It's something we each have to face every day. I think your approach to being more active, hiking, walking, dancing, etc is a good method to fight that monster. I find that when I am active I keep the food beast at bay. Changing your life is no small matter. You are indeed taking the right steps. Keep up the good work and good positive attitude.

Good to read your update and hear of your success. I wondered how you were doing.

I think that's great that you joined a dance class and found a group for hiking and walking. That sounds like an excellent way to get your exercise in and remain active / involved with people.

I think you're right on track with your weight loss. You'll probably hit more stalls before you reach your goal but that's just part of the process. Keep up the good work.

Wow.  Congratulations!

I too struggle with food even now.  I think it will always probably be a lifelong battle.  Do you feel that way as well?  I just try to keep in my mind that I am making healthier choices now.  I don't beat myself up about a bad choice, but make small changes towards progress.  And boy howdy are you making progress.  Give yourself a pat on the back.
