4 Month Follow up

Ok so I saw my surgeon Yesterday for my 4 month follow up...And they are very happy with my results.

All my labs are good/normal and I am good on protein and water..

Couple of things of interest that came up in the conversation;

One Doc says most people have are at the peak of their weight loss at around the 9 month mark. Thats not to say that people dont loose weight after that its just an generalized statement, He said after that the body is adjusting itself for the new you and it becomes more difficult to loose weight, but not impossible.

Asked Doc about where he thought I would fall he said he thought a lil below 200, which was a bit more than I expected.

I asked the NP the same question, she said thats only another 20 pounds she expects me to be considerably less say in the 185 ish range. That made me feel alot better....

I have an extensive history with docs and NP's and usually listen to them because they are the ones who are more intimately involved in our lives...My ID doc is the same way, if I need anything I just call my NP on the cell phone she handles it and gives it to the doc and says do it..

The other interesting thing which I knew but forget; was if you personal goal is 185 then you need to shoot for 170 because the average person will gain back around 10 percent of the lost weight between years 1 and 3...

So all of this means in my case I need to push to loose another 50 pounds in the next 5 or so months...This isnt a goal just a guideline, I will be happy with an end result of anything  below 195...

Anyway Have a great day, oh for those stricken by the heat EXCERCISE INSIDE THE AC AND DRINK MORE WATER>>

Hey G

Glad to see you on here. Also glad everything checked out well.  I have been in a stall for about two and a half weeks that is about ready to make me scream but I am trying to be patient. Anyway here is hoping you are able to get down to the weight YOU want. I am going to see my ID doc next month should be interesting  the results since the surgeon pretty much took me off most of my meds for bp and triglycerides etc, not the important ones. Anyway love that 81 lbs you have lost NOW THATS pretty impressive!!

OMG!  You've lost 81 pounds?  That's so impressive.  Congratulations G.

I feel the same way about NPs and Docs, and I work with docs on a daily basis!  I didn't think about the regain of 10%, which is a good thing to keep in mind.  Thanks for the reminder.  As well as you have been loosing, 10 pounds per month for the next five months will be easy peasy for you.

Are y'all getting hit by the heat up there too!  OMG.  We've been breaking records here with 107 last week.  For the next seven days its projected to be 100+ each day.  Ugh.  I haven't gotten back to the gym yet but have planned my return for next Monday.  I am getting lots of walking in though.

Hugs,

Danny

Thanks to you both for your encouragement....

Hell yes its hot...PUN INTENDED...Yesterday I made the treck to my docs in Columbia (about 130 miles), with all the Jeep doors off, so I stopped at the first rest stop and changed into GYM clothes. Otherwise I would of melted into a blob of goo...

Craig good to see you and you have made great progress too, wont be long and we will all be IN THE ZONE...

Danny your doing fantastic too even with the Taco Bueno

One thing I forgot was the Doc said I would most likely need a tummy tuck in Spring..I said hell thats the least of our worries and I will sell my Ford stock, thats the kind of things I bought it for...

Sorry for my emoticon fetish..

Hugs

G,
My advice as a 3 year post-op is to concentrate on goals other than weight related. That is hard to do at your point in the weight loss surgery life cycle. I find surgeon goals to often be conservative. Follow the bariatric rules and guidelines and life changes will come. I have seen too many people beat themselves up over a 10-20 pound weight gain. It's self defeating behavior that is counter to your efforts. Aim for a reasonable weight and if you don't make it, you will have probably achieved many other goals and changes in your life to celebrate other than those pounds.

Thanks Tom,

I appreciate the veterans around here, they help me alot with the "Shut Up","Just Do It", "It will be Ok's"...or the "We'll cross that bridge when we get there's"..

I am usually pretty good about not living in it and not over complicating it, that wasn't the message I was trying to convey.

You make an excellent point, I mean about the "Secondary" stuff or NSV's. I was talking about this journey with someone and told them that the weight loss hasnt been the smack in the face or the Epiphany during the last few months. Its all the lil things that you never realized that you missed out on because of your weight.
Sure the weight loss is the trigger but its hasn't been my AH HA....and no matter if I hit a mark or not at this point I couldnt be more extactic about the whole proces.

Thanks Again,

Hugs
G

Fantasic results for just 4-months post-op!! Congrats on your success.

Great info on the goal guideline. My doctor's goal for me was 200 lbs. and my personal goal was 190 lbs. I've started leveling off at 186 lbs and hope to stay below 195 lbs. I honestly hope that I don't gain back 10% in the first 3 years. Would really like to stay where I'm at.

Thanks so much for your post and all the wonderful information you share in this forum.
