As for your protein question, I've found a EAS high protein powder that I really like. Also use pre-packaged Premier protein shakes (Costco and Sam's Club) that I use. My doc suggested about 80 grams of protein per day and less than 1,000 calories. The only way I could do that was with the protein shakes and bars.
I'd opt for higher protein and less calories during pre-op. But, that's just my suggestion.

Welcome and congrats on starting your WLS journey! There are calories in everything we eat... including protein drinks. Most bari surgeons recommend between 1000-1200 calories per day for weight loss. Also, the minimum protein level after WLS is 80g of protein each day. For some people it is more... ie: for men or if you are an avid athelete then your body will require more protein. It's pretty easy to stay under that 1200 calorie mark if you are paying attention to what you are consuming. A couple of protein drinks each day would be less than 300 calories. Then throw in a couple of fresh green salads with fat free dressing and 3-4oz of chicken on the salad and you're good to go! Cottage cheese and yogurt are also great sources of protein with low calories.
Welcome to the wonderful world of reading the nutritional values chart on everything you consume. It does take some work in the beginning, but trust me, it's worth it in the end!
Good Luck!

Thank you My doc suggests 1300-1400 cals a day, but I shoot for 1200, and 110g protein. Perhaps this is because they have us going to PT to get excerciese. We are trying to learn what foods in the real world we can eat without detrament to our health, I feel this way, we will be able to accuratly cope with our future diet. One good thing we found (calorie and Protein wise) is the Jack in the Box Chicken Fajita Pita (No salsa) it's uber yummy and filling and only 320 calories 24g protein. They put the calories on the menu board...seems they are trying more and more to be healtheir, they are the best ones I found for this fast food wise anyhow.
careful with ANYTHING from any fast food restaurant. They are highly processed foods (yes the chicken is too) and that typically comes with a much higher sodium level. Sodium makes us retain water and not lose weight... actually can make you gain wait too. My rule of thumb: avoid all fast food joints no matter what. For me, I used to buzz the drive thru's at least 3-4 times a week... and I did not order the healthy items. So completely avoiding those places has totally worked for me.
But good that you are starting to look at the nutritional content and you're becoming more aware of what you're putting into your body. Keep it up!

But thank you for the information I will keep it under advisment. Hay my Partner is from San Jose : )) We are heading to Sacramento this weekend to hit a going out of business sale at Irenes.
