Hey everyone!!!!

Went in for bypass on Tuesday 5-17-11 came home yesterday (Friday)...I am healing now and taking things very slowly...It is amazing how exhausted I get so quickly.... but I am happy to be home!! The procedure went well and I even had a problematic gallbladder removed in the process. Kind of like a two-fer!!! "-)

I am finding that the gas I was worried about is certainly coming out!! (sorry did not mean to gross anyone out). My tummy is gurgling a lot and it feels different, you know, like the gurgling is going if a different direction than before. Very odd feeling.
I am working on waking an making sure I get my protein and water in...also multi-vitamin and calcium in addition to the Roxisett (not sure how to spell that...the pain med).

But so far so good and I am working on feeling better! Thank you all for your encouraging words and support....hope to chat with you soon...Xico

Congrats on a successful surgery and getting home. Glad they were able to remove the gallbladder at the same time. Much better than a second surgery.

I found that the Gas-X strips really helped. Eventually that will stop.

Take it easy for a few days. The strength will come back slowly and it does get better.

Don't know what kind of regiment your Dr. has you on now. But, I'd recommend that you follow it religiously. They gave me a big blue book with day-by-day instructions for meals. That has served me well and I was able to hit my Doctor's goal weight for me in less than 6 months.

You may want to pick up some Ketosis sticks and start checking your levels. For the first few months you should probably be in high Ketosis where your body is feeding off of stored fat. But, you don't want your Ketosis levels too high or you run the risk of kidney stones. Keep an eye on things.

Best of luck on this very rewarding journey.

High Weight = 310     Surgery Weight = 300   Dr's Goal = 200   My Goal = 190

Congrats, Xico...welcome to the loser's bench!  I second the Gas-X strips, they are AWESOME!!  I bought mine in bulk from Amazon.  I still have gas issues (my wife says I could clear a room in 30 seconds or less), so I take Bean-o with the foods that trigger it the most for me (hummus, leafy greens).  Is your surgeon requiring that you get protien in even within the first week or two post-op?  I had a 2 week post op just after Christmas and he told me that he wasn't going to worry about the protein TOO much in the first couple of weeks b/c the body is healing.

It's a wild ride, but WELL worth it!!  Congrats, again!!

Congrats Xico

Another thing that helped me with the gas was walking. I think that more than anything else it helped get rid of the painful gas.  I had my bypass on 5/5 so take it slow and relax. try to get you water in by sips and get your protein in. You are going to do great.

Welcome to the loser bench

Craig
