XPost - Appointment Progress...Finally!
After having my seminar, appointment with the surgeon and initial lab taken over the course of three days, I went almost two weeks without any progress made towards having surgery. I was going stir crazy and resisting the urge to call their office as much as I'd like. (I still did three times. ) I received an email this mornining with all of my appointments....yippee!
Psych Eval - This Wed and next Wed (Eight visits after surgery as approved by my insurance.)
Chest X-Ray, Echo, PFTs, EKG, ABGs - This Friday
Sleep Study - Next Monday
Exercise and Behavioral - May 3
Support Group - May 9
Dietician - May 11
Cardiac Consult - TBD
Pulmonary Consult - TBD
Surgeon Consult - TBD
I feel like I'm moving and hope to have my surgery in June, pending approval.
I was torn between the Sleeve and RNY, but opted for the RNY because of the slight improvement in weight outcome and the benefit for diabetes. (I take quite a bit of insulin.) I worry about the ability to take pills but I imagine there are similar issues with the sleeve on that. I'm happy with my choice of RNY!
Thank you all for this board and I look forward to continued reading and contributing more in the future.

Thats fantastic....wont be long and you will join us on the looser bench...
I had my surgery on 3/7 and was taking pills the same night. I did cut the bigger one in half the first night, but now I take pills the size of my the top knuckle of my pinky with no problems.
It might be different for you because I had VSG, but the concept is that it will get easier and you will get through it.

Thanks G. I expect to be taking a lot less medication, but in addition to the vitamins there are a few that I'll still need to take. Smashing them, putting them in liquid and swallowing just doesn't sound like I'd enjoy it too much. Ugh. I'll persist and learn to get those pills down.
How've things been since your surgery?

Only issue I had was for like the first week post op...Liquid in Liquid out so I was a lil dehydrated. Drank some regular gatoraid for a couple of days and things leveled off. You have to get used to the eating slower part but now its been smooth sailing.
Its been 43 days and 40 pounds...I was at my PCP doc on Thursday and got some labs back, first BP is now 125 over 78. Cholesterol is 150 from 201, tryglycerides are not 197 from 247. Everything else is inline. Dont take my BP or Trygyceride meds anymore- Whoohooo..
As far as the journey goes, for me, I expected it to be more difficult, i just dont live in it. I do what I am supposed to do with vitamins and a protein shake and otherwise I eat what I want, just less of it and at a slower pace. Pain was what I expected, but I have had my GB removed before and it was pretty similar in nature. I did feel like I had a pulled stomach muscle off and on but that normal. I still try to stay away from sugar and fat, but dont have an issue eating them if I want to but rarely have the urge to. One thing with the sleeve that I like is now I am really only hungry like twice a day, first thing in the morning and like 4:30 in the afternoon.
What hasn't happened yet is my AHAHHH moment, where I sit back and go WOW I have lost a lot of weight. The 40 lbs hasn't smacked me in the face..Will post some before and after pictures in the next couple of days.
If you have any questions will be glad to help, I am pretty open.
LOVE IT..LOVE IT..LOVE IT..
