Some of you may have read this post of mine on the RNY board, but I wanted to post it here as well. I want us to keep the LGBT board full of posts so we get more traffic. - Alan

It's great, it's grand, wa-wa-wa-wa-wa-wa-wa-wa-onederland.

So I finally hit 199 yesterday. Well, actually not finally, since this feels like it all happened amazingly fast. I am 8 1/2 months out from surgery. I am down 155 since I started and 123 since surgery. Two more pounds and I will weigh less than I have weighed since senior year in college. (Quick edit: this morning on the scale I was 197 which makes me weigh less than any time since college. But I am a Monday weigher, so it won't be official until then.)

I am now wearing size large shirts (down from XXXL), size 15 1/2 or 16 dress shirts (down from size 22), a size 42 sport jacket (down from a 56 I think) and size 34 pants (down from 52 or 54 with elastic waist.) I try to get most of the new clothes at resale shops until everything settles.

This journey has not been perfect. I sometimes eat the wrong things and exercise too little. The depression of the past few months, which finally seems to be getting under control, kicked my butt hard. I stare at the small number of wearable clothes in my closet and can't believe it when I try on things that haven't quite made it to the resale shop yet. I hold up clothes all the time that look so small to me and I try them on to find they fit or are a little big. My relection in the mirror still looks so different than I feel.

And while the extra skin on my belly doesn't bother me much, the turkey gobble annoys me for some reason. I figure over time, things will redistribute and I will see some improvement, or I will go to the surgeon for the full on Joan Rivers treatment.

Still it has been an amazing ride, if too much like Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. I feel very lucky. I have no idea what lies ahead and how, if and how long this journey will continue. But for now, it is a good place to be.

And because this is my favorite part of other posts, here are my before and after shots for your viewing pleasure:

Today - 199 (not a very good shot but I was too tired to retake it)

CONGRATULATIONS and you look so great! I KNOW how happy you must feel! I, too, am more bothered by neck than belly...arm flags are up there before belly, too. I doubt I will ever afford plastic surgeries to do them, but we never know!
I still go to the WOMEN'S clothing dept first then wonder why I can't find clothes that do anything but hang on me...old habits die hard! When you've done something for 40+ years, it's hard to get IN YOUR HEAD that you are not that person any more.
Keep on truckin'...it's a great tool!

What a great post!!! Congrats getting under 200 lbs. I just reached that milestone, too, and it's a wonderful feeling.

Looks like we were very similar in clothes sizes before surgery and now. It's been an amazing and wonderful journey. Keep up the good work and you're looking great!!

Congrats on your success I saw your post on one of the other forums and thought how strange when that woman asked you if you were single until I remembered I wasn't in my home forum!(GLBT) I am just starting out and wll be having surgery on May 5th so I can only hope to have the kind of success you have had! Thanks for helping those of us starting out see what real success looks like!

Congratulations on your progress. You look amazing. I myself have gone through a lot of the same things that you mentioned in your posting, and can relate to most of it.  Especially a small bit of the depression part, but its getting better with the weather warming up and the ability to get out and do more things.  Take care and Congrats again on your success.

Congrats!  You do look amazing.  It's funny, in your 340# picture, you look an awful lot alike my husband!  (A picture of him is in my profile if you want to look.)

Keep up the good work.  I hope to have similar results here in a few months!
