one week out!

i just wanted to say hello to everyone here and say i had a successful surgery! i was in a whole lot of pain for a few days and kind of shunned my computer and communication with the world. to tell you the truth, it still feels pretty surreal. now that i'm merely a little sore, i can't believe my stomach is tiny and that i haven't actually experienced real hunger in a week. i can't believe that i'm eating such small portions and by the time three hours roll around and it's time for me to eat again, that i'm not hungry! it's such an incredible feeling but it's unreal.

reading about all of your successes, i'm so excited to have joined you on the loser's bench and i only hope that i can make this work because people have been whispering in my ears like little devils telling me that i can gain the weight back like nothing if i don't change my eating habits. yes, i know this! i'm well aware of this fact! i just wish people would stop thinking it's their place to tell me this just because their friend's mother or their cousin's husband couldn't maintain it.

woo, tiny little unexpected vent there! really, i just wanted to say hi and that i've joined you on the loser's bench!

Hi!  So glad to hear your doing well! I don't understand why people find it necessary to scare you. Keep yourself focused and you'll do great! You definately came to the right place to vent!

So happy to hear the surgery went well and you're starting to get over the initial shock. Believe me, I think you're over the worst part of this journey.

I sure understand your venting about all the negative comments. That's one of the reasons I decided to only tell immediate family and a couple close friends about the surgery. (Co-workers knew - obviously but have been very supportive since there are 3 others that have had RNY surgery this year.)

Any comment that really gets my shorts in a bunch is when someone states that WLS is the "easy" way out or is a way of "cheating" instead of dieting. I don't think people understand the lifestye changes that have to take place after surgery. This certainly isn't "easy".

But, getting back to the positive stuff, I'm starting to find myself making some very positive changes in my eating habits and my mental outlook on life. This "feels" like a lifestyle change I can embrace for the rest of my life. Unlike previous diets, I don't feel deprived or like I'm being punished for my size. Believe me, this is becoming one of the most significant events of my life.

congrats!! so glad to hear everything went well for you. you are doing really well for only a week out. i noticed you posted another thread about proteins and liquids. just remember you're really early out. its not expected you'll get all that stuff in for the first month. just do the best you can. you won't really get all your proteins in right away and the liquids, it took me like a month or so to get 64oz in. so just take it easy and do what you can. don't stress about it and don't force yourself.

isn't it amazing to not feel hungry?  i found it to be really liberating.

as far as naysayers go, i have found that judgmental people, even some doctors, will always look for the negative in what you're doing. don't let that get to you. as long as you're doing what you're supposed to be doing, you're fine. you don't have to explain yourself to anyone or defend yourself. you have enough going on right now without dealing with the crap people say. geez, can't they let you heal first? try to ignore or avoid people like that for now.

you are doing great. you're going to be astounded at how the weight will just fall off. especially with RNY. good luck!!

Congrats on getting through surgery. It gets better from here. One suggestion I have is to make sure you surround yourself with enough people who are positive and supportive. OH is a great resource for that. Also go to your surgeon's support group or other local support groups. Get together with people in your area who have had surgery or friends who are supportive. And get any other support you need to help overcome whatever your personal eating issues were that got you to surgery. It is a process, but for me those have been helpful things over the past six months since surgery. Best of luck.
