new around these parts
hello there! my name is kristine and today makes exactly two weeks before my scheduled surgery date. i've been a member of this website since '08 when i first began to consider wls and now, i've finally got a date that actually looks like it'll be a reality rather than some flight of fancy. i don't really talk to very many people that have had wls so i wanted to post here and say hello! i'm hoping to find a few comrades to commiserate with about things like my opti fast diet that i find utterly terrifying just one day in.
Welcome aboard! If you have any questions, just shoot em out...oral fixation, eh...yes I read your profile...and yes, I am a dirty dirty boy...LOL
Seriously...you state you've been on the website a couple years so I'm sure you've read & have heard lots from all the postings...I stumbled on the GLBT Forum accidentally after a couple months posting on the VSG board...and thank god I did...although most are supportive, there are a few extreme conservatives that drove me a little nutty on the main boards...but we welcome you w/open arms...
Good luck on your 2 weeks...I was lucky...3 protein shakes (my own choosing) and one small meal (lean cuisine) per day till last day before surgery...4 shakes...no solids...easier than my gal bladder 2 years ago...
You're going to have one hell of a great New Year!

Hello Kristine,
I am recovering from plastic surgery (RNY 9/08) and I am having to keep reminding myself that nothing is forever again. Had to do that pre- and post-operatively with the bypass too. The pain, restriction (apparently recurs after PS) and weakness resolve and the weight loss is SO worth it. Ask away with questions!

My date is still currently "tentative" so technically the insurance hasn't approved it since my doctor had to resubmit the request this week because of the new year. It's so silly but I'm still waiting for approval, I'm just having faith it will go well since my doctor's office says there shouldn't be any issues
Hey Kristine!
Welcome and congrats on the beginning of your non-flight-of-fancy journey! LOL. I was on Optifast for 2 weeks pre-op. The first 2 days sucked ass big time!!! But my body adjusted to it pretty well. My WLS Surgeon sells OptiFast and he carries a lot of their products. So I had the shakes, soups, and their meal bars. Dr. wanted me to have 5 Optifast "meals" per day. So I did 3 shakes, 1 soup, and 1 bar each day. It did the trick cuz I dropped 12 lbs during those 2 weeks.
During these last 2 wks pre-op, try to exercise as much as possible...even if it's just a 30 min walk daily. The more active you are going into surgery the easier time you will have in your recovery.
Good luck to you and feel free to reach out if you like. A lot of us are on facebook. Feel free to add me if you like... www.facebook.com/musicmaryn

I wish I had the option to add in soup or bars! One of the hardest things is that I prefer something savory over sweet and these are just sweet. I think I'm gonna start taking walks, though, even if I hate being outside just until I can get into a gym. I almost got up and left for a bit at 2am when I couldn't fall asleep from how hungry I was! Day 2 is hard so I'm hoping things start getting better later this week
