Hi All,
I am just starting the process of research and have an appointment with my GP this week to talk to her about GB. I am just wondering if anyone has any tips, on how I should go about talking to my doctor to be able to be considered for this surgery?
Thanks :)

Welcome!
Just be honest, tell your GP everything that you struggle with (not getting enough exercise, sweating, hip/knee pain, anxiety, poor sleeping, skin infections etc.). I am not sure about the Canadian healthcare system but in the US, generally, you need a BMI > 40. Comorbidities, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, sleep apnea, arthritis, improve one's chance of insurance approval.

I spoke to my GP last January about my weight issue. I went over the failed diets and had him verify in his records that my weight hadn't dropped significantly for the past 10 years. His only suggestion was to try more diets.
To say the least, his suggestion was discouraging and a "de-motivater".
So, I decided to by-pass my GP and started reading my health insurance policy. Turns out that the insurance company provides coverage for WLS at one clinic in my state. So, I contacted that clinic directly and started working with them on getting approval from the insurance company.
While I did have my GP send the records to the WLS clinic, I haven't seen him in almost a year.
In short, if you don't get adequate support from your GP, find out which doctors are covered by your insurance company. Work with them.

I am not sure why, but my previous account was deleted.. hmmm!
Thanks for the tips, they are greatly appreciated!
Fortunately my GP has been amazing, and has told me that she will support any decision I make in weight loss. I have tried many diets, and even the weight loss shot. The shot resulted in me being extremely sick, and was basically starving myself. Even though its supposed to take away the hunger pains, and make you feel full - its not so true.
I am going there tomorrow, and this site has really helped to gather my thoughts around it. Thank you both for giivng me some much needed information and it is good to know that I do not have to have the support of my GP to go through with this.
