Allow Me To Re-introduce Myself
Hey Everyone,
I thought I'd take a moment to re-introduce myself. I'm Angus, and I live in Ottawa. I had surgery in August of 2008. At the time, I was 517lbs. I'm currently 230lbs.
I'm 34, married, and we have two cats (Spike and Chester), and a dog (Anastasia Beaverhausen).
Having the surgery has opened a whole new world to me. I was never "normal sized" in my adult life, so since losing the weight I can fit in any chair, in any restaurant, in any theatre and not have to worry about it.
I drive a Smart Car, I wear clothes that aren't in the largest sizes, and I can walk, climb stairs, and even jog without becoming winded.
It's not all gum drops and lollipops though. I've had some struggles with rediscovering myself, and my sexuality. It's been an adjustment with food, and health.
But at the end of the day, I wouldn't change it for the world.
I'm also very fortunate to have had a Duodenal Switch. People are having a difficult time getting it approved.
December 15th, I start my journey to start getting rid of the extra skin. I'll be having a panni, and an LBL I think it's called. Dr. Nandagopal in Scarborough Ontario will be helping me with this. I'm looking forward to it.
Anyways, that's me. Say hi :)

Angus,
You have done an excellent job with your loss. And you mention some of the real issues that WLS patients face as we go through this tremendous change. It sounds as if you have done a great job emotionally of handling these issues. You should be proud of your accomplishments. Please update us on your plastics ... and good luck.
Ken

Hi Angus,
I had WL surgery very close to you (9/08) and I am also venturing down the plastic surgery route in the beginning of December - panni, hernia repair and boobs. I think I am more nervous about the pain etc. with this surgery than with the bypass. It seems so much more drastic, though truthfully I suppose less. I figure I will make everything hurt at once . . . I need to start poking around OH for impressions - did so much more "studying" prior to WLS.
As for struggles, our paths sound similar. Available food is very hard for me . . . candy corns on the counter. I am finding that exercise is the key. Everything stays ok weight-wise if enough exercise is included in my week.
My partner and I ventured up to Ottawa from the Finger Lakes two winters ago, what a nice city.
Nice to "remeet", Meg
