when is it safe to dye my hair?
Hi Everyone,
i had my rny surgery on Aug 10Th and I just passed my two month mark, I'm doing great. I'm trying to keep my protein up and I'm finding it easier to exercise now that I've dropped some of the weight off my joints.
I have not lost any hair, I've heard that hair loss starts at the 3month point and I'm too scared of loosing what I've got. I also want to dye my hair as the last time i dyed it was in march and its long long grown out. But I'm confused as i do not want to stress the hair follicles already more than they have been.
Any suggestions?

I don't know what you normally do for your hair....I think hair loss is inevidentable (at least it was for me but I dropped weight quickly). I take biotin, keep protein levels up (80-110 grams a day) and use rogaine, which all help. My hair person reccomended 'Jazzing' by Clairol there is no peroxide and it builds up the hair. It is a temp color. Not too expensive at Sally's. I usually use clear (for shine) if I am not adding a color. Plus I did have to use a very gentle shampoo and conditioner for awhile....treat you hair as good as possible....WLS is hard on hair the first year...and later if you don't eat right....
Hi :-)
My experience is a little different. I didn't lose any hair on my head, I lost all my arm hair. I know that sounds really strange but that's how it went with me. I had no hair on my arms at all. Which I was a competitive swimmer all through high school, college and I am now getting back into it so I was used to shaving my arms for big meets like states and national qualifiers. I noticed the hair loss was happening when I would go to put lotion on after my shower and I was like hmmm my hair looks thinner on my arms, then I looked down again in about a week and noticed there was none. So that's my hair loss story, but I didn't lose any on my head. I do get it highlighter professionally now instead of doing it myself though.

Due to pcos that is exactly what i'm dealing with as well. I can already see scalp in some area's and have switched to using a niacin shampoo and conditioner from sally's. I don't think i would actually mind the hair loss in the other areas it has grown in because of the pcos.
I'm considering just chopping off all the old colored portions and see what happens from there. I'm going to wait on coloring it for a long while. But i was also considering taking niacin an bioxan for my hair and to hear that someone else is taking it is a relief. They have put into words what has been floating around in my head
Thank you everyone for your advice and tips.

I'm looking for something to help with my hair loss as well. I can't take too much niacin b/c it causes flushing for me. I'm using a shampoo with salicyclic acid in it since I also have psoriasis, but have thought about looking for something to alternate with that to help with the hair loss itself. I have considered Rogaine...
