I'm hose free!
Been crazy busy and haven't been here to post, but, last Tuesday my catheter was removed and i am now free to move about and enjoy my success so far. I am right at about 70 lbs lost and doing smashing. Plenty of energy and no major issues except my stomach is quick to react whenit gets something it doesn't like, that is, any meat of any kind. BARF!
It's quite unpleasant and i am reading that it may be a long time if ever that i become a meat again. It's ok, totally worth it.
I am just starting to switch to some real solid food from the mush i have been eating. Any recommendations always welcome.
Cheers

Thanks for the update on your success. Very glad you're hose-free now. But, where are the pictures????
Dropping 70 lbs is amazing!! Sorry to hear about the meat - that's one of my favorites, too. But, have you considered Texturized Vegetable Protein (TVP)? It is made from vegetables but comes in different flavors and is used as a meat substitute. I believe it is widely available in most large grocery stores. I'm sure the health food stores stock it also.

Glad to hear your hose is now hose-free. Congrats on the weight loss. About the meat, I am just now pretty much able to eat most meats (I had my first chicken without problems this week). It may just take some time until you are able to digest meat properly. For now, concentrate on getting protein in a form you enjoy.

Holy crap!!! I grew up in the Vista/San Marcos area (Frazee Paints ring a bell?), between Denver and San Diego, I wound up in Vista for my senior year in HS and graduated from Vista High, then moved to Hillcrest right after I came out in 94. When I met my (now) ex wife, we moved into her old family home off of 30th and Upas and were there until 2004 when there was a huge family legal battle over the property and we lost our home to a probate sale. I miss San Diego horribly, we just came back from a vacation there on the week of the 27th (for my birthday). My girls saw the ocean for the first time and my partner got to meet my mother and the foster family that had a hand in raising me...so the extended family. I will probably be returning to San Diego after I finish my RN in 2012 to be back home and closer to my mom and family. Oh....and b/c Cal State San Marcos has the Nurse Practitioner degree program I want. I miss my home!!!
OneFinger....Point Loma is still beautiful. They moved the Corvette Diner that was in Hillcrest to the Point Loma area in the old military base. It isn't the same as it was in the old location :(

Hey Todd! My creative digestive system didn't do too well on normal meats (ie: chicken, pork, really any animal meats) early on after my RNY. What I found worked best for me during that time (months 2-5) was eating mostly soy proteins instead of animal proteins. I could do dairy pretty well (ie: reduced fat cheese, cottage cheese, milk, etc) but couldn't do meats. Pretty much any grocery store will have soy proteins these days. I found them in the veggie meat section of the produce area. There's so much more than just tofu available these days. I found that my creative digestive system just did better on soy protein. My fave brand is "Gardein." Check them out.
