RNY Surgery Went Great!!

Reported to the hospital this morning and was in the OR @ 8:45 a.m. Back in the room by about Noon.

Right now it is 9:00 p.m. and I've already done 2 walks (unassisted) around the area. Started water @ 5:00 p.m. and do 1 oz / hour.

Pain is about 1 or 2 out of 10 and I've only had to push the meds button 3 times. Biggest problem is hiccups which the pain meds take care of.

Dr. says I'll be out tomorrow night. Kept my gall bladder (no stones) but he did repair a moderate hyeital hernea with 3-4 stitches.

They also used a anesthetic via face mask instead of IV in the arm. I really believe this is a reason for my good recovery (so far). Seems to dissipate faster than the IV stuff.

I'm sure it could be a much different day tomorrow. But, for now, my life is very good.

Really appreciate this site and all the info / sharing that takes place here. It has really helped me get ready to become a loser.

I noticed your surgery was today and was wondering how you were doing.  It's very encouraging to hear that you've been doing this well so soon after such a surgery!  Good luck and keep up the great work!

So glad to hear you're doing well! Did you have a choice between the mask or IV? I hope your journey continues to go as smoothly!

Thanks to you and Leza for the replies. Second day and still doing well.

Asked the Doc this morning about mask vs IV. Haven't had general surgery for quite some time and now the mask is the standard.

Going home in about 4-5 hours.

That's good to know! I had my gallbladder out like 7 years ago but I have no memory of the surgery. I hope everything goes well at home! Please update often... the closer I get to surgery the more hours I spend on this site! I know everyone has a different experience, and I look forward to reading all about them!

Just starting Day 4 post-op and things are still going great. Picked up my liquid loratab at the pharmacy on the way home but haven't had to use it at all. But, glad it's on hand just in case.

My chest feels like I was kicked by a horse but I suspect that's normal. No pouch problems at all - but I'm still on clear liquid diet. I'm passing a lot of gas so that makes me feel things are working fine there.

Got on the scales today and I'm down 10 lbs from my hospital exit weight (more than my pre-surgery weight).

I'm able to get in a couple walks around the block but that does wear me out.

Very anxious to move on to a full liquid diet tomorrow. That wil include light yogurt, cottage cheese, string cheese, strained soups, etc. Getting real sick of broth and jello.

One--you are doing a phenomenal job!!  10 pounds is great!!!  I'm not looking forward to the clear liquid diet, either.  I hope I don't get to *****y on it, lol...
