hello from Canada!
Hi everyone -- I've been lurking for a while and wanted to introduce myself. I'm Don and I live in the Vancouver area. I'm on day 3 of my pre-op liquid diet before my VSG. It's not as bad as I feared so far (trust me, I want to make this surgery as smooth as possible, which has effectively killed any appetite I have). Shrink, liver, shrink!!
I just wanted to say how inspiring I find everyone here and that your encouraging posts to each other have made a big difference to me. I feel like I'm at the top of the rollercoaster and just about to head down a very steep incline but you are the safety belt holding me in place. Is that too kumbaya for first thing on a Saturday morning?
Have a great weekend, everyone!

Things are going well. According to the DR I’ve lost 113lbs, I’ve already dropped well over 15 pts from my BMI. I’ve gone from wearing 5x shirts to 2x shirts, and I’ve gone from a size 54 jeans to a 42. I didn’t have a ton of co-morbidities; however I did have high BP and high Cholesterol, both of which are in the normal range at this time. I haven’t taken a high BP pill since the day before surgery. Life is amazing; I’m going on my first plane trip in YEARS in just under 2 weeks now.
I've had zero complications with surgery, I've recovered nearly fully (still have a few pinkish scares but they're definitely fading).
I wish you the best of luck and just know that you're gonna love it!
I'm low on the co-morbidities, too: type 2 diabetes (but no meds, controlled with low-carb diet) and sleep apnea. I'm a 52 waist right now. It does me so much good to hear from people like you who have been there and are all the better for having the surgery. Thanks for the well wishes and I look forward to reporting the ups and downs after the surgery.
Thank you, Kevin! I lived in Ottawa for many years and visited Kingston several times. It's such a beautiful city! I read your "bar" post and you confirmed my long ago decision to never enter a gay bar again. Honey, it's all about surfaces there and those vicious queens had no idea how hard you have worked and how much you have changed. Self esteem is always going to be an issue for those of us who ate their way to morbid obesity. A bar is not the most supportive place in the world for anyone unless they are a "10" so maybe next time (if there is one) drag a friend with you to make it more bearable. I admire your bravery for venturing out and taking those first steps in being social again.
