Newbie here -- Pre - Op
Hi --
I'm new here, but wanted to say hi to all my brothers and sisters out in bariatric-land. I'm 43 (my profile pic is when i was a senior in high school), 5'6" and 273 pounds. Not quite sure how that happened; but here we are.
I am hoping to have an RNY in August here in CT.
My wife and I have will be celebrating 12 years together in August; we were married in CT in December 2008. We have 2 girls, ages 4 and 6, and they have the same donor.
So...who has longevity here, and what are some of your secrets to success?
Best,
Stephanie

Hi.
I will be 6 years post-op in August. I started at 265 and lost down to 135. Stayed there for a hot minute and bounced up to 140. That was okay with me, as that was my goal weight. I maintained that for 2 years, until I started nursing school ~ then I gained 18 pounds. Ugh. I managed to lose 8 of those pounds after graduation. Not motivated enough to diet or exercise in order to lose the other 10 pounds. So, I hover around 150 these days. I am okay with that.
My wife and I just celebrated our 20th anniversary. We have an 11 year old daughter who is incredible smart, funny, and spoiled. Life is pretty good.
Welcome and good luck.

Welcome!
I am almost 2 years out; 43 also. I started at 323 lbs and stopped losing a year-ago October. I've stayed around 150 ever since. Daily food tracking and weighing, as well as getting out for exercise are my "secrets". I live in the Finger Lakes region of western NY - good to have more east coasters.

Hi Stephanie,
Welcome to OH. This is a wonderful community and it provided me with a lot of support when I was preparing for my RNY.
I am about 15 months out.
I think the biggest secret to success is to watch every single thing you put in your mouth. I pretty much make a conscious decision before consuming anything whereas in the past I used to eat unconsciously and pay no attention to what i was putting into my body.
Also, exercise is a must. Without daily exercise it is difficult to maintain weight loss, bariatric surgery or not.
There is a lot of wisdom on the boards, any questions you have just reach out and someone will be there to help you.
Good luck on your journey.
Kevin
