Mexico
Hey Ya'll!!! I'm new to this forum...but I have a question...I'm going to Mexico in August to have my sleeve surgery with Dr. Rod...has anyone on this forum been to Mexico...known anyone who is going/gone to Mexico?? Just trying to gather as much info as possible....
And also ( off THIS topic ) can anyone share their menus for their pre-op diet?? I'm in the middle of summer musicals and I want to go as simple and easy as possible...
THANKS,
Danette

My partner and I both went to Mexico, last week and had our VSG's done there, everything went fine, it is natural to have some hesitation, Our doc spoke very good English, the nurses spoke very little or none at all. It is much diffrent in Mx. then it is in the states that is for sure.
Our pre-ope, diet was only for 5 days and we had jello, ice pops, yougarts, protien drinks, broth. Kind of bland, the first few days are the toughest.
Hang in there, and good luck

There is someone in another board who went to Mexico and even though the surgery went well ...she is having trouble as a post op and her PCP doesn't know the proper ways to help her. I wouldn't suggest it for ANY surgery and most definitely not for bariatric surgery. I know in my program I saw my surgeon every 3 months for the first year, 2-3 the second year, and then once year for the first 5 years after that. Are you going to be able to travel to Mexico that many times ....or just letting your PCP handle your needs? If that is the case than make sure your PCP is educated on bariatric surgery, a lot aren't, including my own. I'm not bashing. I'm just cautious like that!
I completely understand. What is the member's name...I would really like to hear about her story. Before I made this decision to go I made sure I had a support team in place. I have a close friend that is an ER doc who is going to monitor me day to day...then I have my PCP who is going to check me every 3 months and log my progress. I'm being very cautious also...I want this to work out in my favor. :) Thanks for replying!!!
You definitely do need to do your homework on the doc's you use. I will look for the blog of a gal that has put a lot of time and info in about the sleeve.
She had her surgery in Mexico and swears by her doc, I also swear by mine but I only live 3 hrs away so there is no problem for me to go back and see him. I will look for the blog and send it to you.

Check out her blog, she has put a lot of info into it, Hope that it helps you out. I did not find it until after I had my surgery done, but I did find that my doc is a good doc by looking up info on mexico sites and he was there.http://wasabubblebutt.blogspot.com/
Good luck
Good luck
I had some plastics in Mexico, some good (LBL), some bad (arms). I found the clinic to be very clean and I received better medical care there than I did here. Read extensively and check the references on here to make sure the doc you choose is good. There have been some horror stories but there have been a lot of good results. Someone on the DS board went with a surgeon even after people warned her away, and now she's very sick. There are good sleeve doctors, and some bad ones. Read the Mexico forum as well as the VSG forum, and best of luck.
