Hi everyone,
Thank goodness its almost Friday..this week seems to be dragging for some reason. But this morning was a good morning...I tend to weigh myself every morning, and this morning the scale finally started moving again. I plateaued about 3-4 weeks ago and could not get out of this 5 pound number range. I was convinced I was doing something wrong. I thought maybe I am eating too many carbs, or not getting enough protein, or not exercising enough. I talked to a good friend of mine who had WLS and she said keep doing what your doing your body will catch up and it did finally. Anyone else tend to get a little nervous if the scale hasn't moved in a while and you haven't reached your goal weight?? Well hope everyone is having a fantastic week

Erin,

Goal weight can be an elusive animal that you will chase for years. Keep doing what you are doing. Follow the surgeon's and nutritionist's guidelines. Eat healthy and the right portions. That is the key to success.

Now about that scale not moving... It happens to everyone. It is just a normal behavior that your body adjusts as your weight and intake adjust. Jus****ch that you are not gaining which can be a sign of being non-compliant.

Here is how I look at this at about 2 years out... You get to a point where your body is comfortable and you stop. That may not be where you want to be but the reality is it is where you are. Can you get past that plateau? Sure, you are no different than anyone, even non-WLS folks. Weight loss is all about calories in and calories out. To get more loss, you need more calories out. So, how does that happen? The way that most people can overcome the plateau is to step up activity and exercise.

Now, take your mind off of weight loss. OK, I know that is hard. But, list all the good things that have happened post-op. What can you do that you could not before? How about your health?  I suspect the list will be long showing you are much more successful than you think.

Sometimes a plateau can be a nice place to be.

Hey Erin!

Ya... plateaus happen.  They can happen often depending on how much weight you are losing.  I'm on one right now.  At this stage of the game (120 lbs released and only 37 lbs away from my goal) I tend to lose 5-7 lbs then plateau for a couple weeks.  It's just how my body is these days.  I'm not concerned cuz my clothes are still getting looser despite the #'s on the scale not moving.  It also happens because I am working out pretty heavily - doing lots of vigorous up-hill hikes.  My thighs are quite mighty these days.  Woo hoo!  Muscle mass weighs more than fat mass.  keep that in mind too.

Don't worry.  just keep on doing what you know is right and you'll keep moving in the right direction.

Have a great weekend.

Thanks Maryn,
Yeah my clothes keep getting bigger on me so thats a good thing. I am not going to worry so much about what the scale says and more about what my body says. I bike or run every day and there is this one kick ass hill that I can't always make it up on my bike so I'll use that as my guide, when I can make it up that I know I am getting stronger and there is less weight to pull up that hill  You look great btw!!

7-8 months out was when the plateaus started for me.  But, I kept losing until 13-14 months post-op.  Even now, almost two years out, I am still finding that clothes seem to be fitting differently and people still keep asking if I am losing.  The scale has not changed since October really.

Glad to see another Rochester/Finger Lakes member!

May I suggest NOT weighing yourself everyday? As you know, you're disappointed if nothing happens.
Maybe weigh once a week--and you'll be happy when you see how much you've lost.
