Another New Guy
I am new to OH and was very happy to see the GLBT forum. It is great to have support from those *****ally understand.
I have been heavy all of my life and always thought that my weight kept me from from finding a partner. I was keeping me "safe" from rejection I thought, but it was at a great cost. I know that WLS is not a fix-all. My mind is not going to be surgically altered, just my stomach. So I know that I have a lot of growth a head of me.
I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and wonder if anyone knows of support groups (especially GLBT) for WLS in the area?
Thanks!
Mark

Welcome to the forum! There is a great wealth of knowledge here from those who have gone before you :) If you have any questions about the journey, please feel free to ask! Like you, my mind is something that is taking a long time to catch up to the rest of me. I've often said that I wish they operated on my brain while they operated on my stomach LOL
Welcome again!
Welcome again!
Thanks for the welcome, HTMan. It looks like to me that you have had great success with weight loss. That is so great. I am very happy for you. I agree with what you said about our minds. I believe that if I could really fix my mind, I probably wouldn't need WLS. I will be back to the GLBT forum.

Hi Mark! Welcome.! I believe you are with Kaiser Richmond and they have the classes and support groups for all people. I am with kaiser ssf and they too have a variety of classes. I don't really know of GLBT specific bay area classes but it would be great if they were around.
Good luck and much success to you!~Ann

Band removed and feeling alive with energy!
Hello Ann. Thanks for your reply. Yes, I am at Richmond Kaiser and I am going to their support group which is only twice a month. I feel like I need more support and am so excited about OH! I need to check out which classes are available at Kaiser and I will do that this week. Thank youi for the reminder. I have my first official weigh-in since starting the process. Wish me luck (I think I will need it).
Take care,
Mark
