Do any of you know if the Basal Metabolic Rate (the rate at which your body burns calories if you were to just sit all day) really applies to us?  I would have a hard time believing that it does because if it did, I think I would have been dead by now LOL

The basal metabolic rate is the amount of calories that one's body uses at rest... using just enough calories to keep vital organs functioning.  It is reduced in people who have have gastric bypass surgery.  Most formulas for estimating BMR probably do not work for post-RNY patients.  However, everyone does have a BMR.

Interesting.....and I'm sure everyone who is post-op's BMR varies greatly from person to person too.  i guess that would depend on how your metabolism is.....whether you are an active person or lethargic.
